Around Texas: A round-up of recruiting news in the Lone Star State
Around the state of Texas, decisions are being made, visits are being taken, and offers are being extended as recruiting never stops in this great state. It is time to take a look at the latest happenings on the Lone Star state recruiting front.
Recruiting notes and thoughts from Camp Bullitt
Go ahead and write down the name Markis Deal. The 6-3, 267-pound defensive lineman has the makings of a national prospect. Syracuse is his only offer right now, but I expect him to reel them in from all over the country by the time it is all said and done. He is a guy I really wanted to see going into the weekend and he did not disappoint. He looks the part, and he moved incredibly well for a guy that size. He was my favorite prospect out of the OL/DL group. I could easily see him being a Texas A&M target in the future.https://twitter.com/Jason_Howell/status/1282386426609442816?s=20The only Texas A&M offer at the camp was Frisco Liberty 2022 WR Evan Stewart, and he was my favorite receiver of the day. His skill set is made for camp one-on-ones and there was not a defensive back on hand who could handle his combination of speed and quickness. This is the fourth time I have seen him since June and he never disappoints. Strong hands, quick and precise routes, and he plays with a swagger. Flower Mound 2022 QB Nick Evers continues to raise his profile. He checked in at 6-3, 189 on Saturday and then he put on a show on Sunday. His deep ball has been one of my favorites, but he is throwing with touch, precision, and zip right now. He was on his game Sunday in a loaded QB group. As mentioned above the QB group was my favorite overall group with top prospects in several classes. Elite 11 QB Grayson James took home MVP honors and he definitely handled business. As mentioned above Evers was a standout. Rockwall 2022 Braedyn Locke looked sharp as did Frisco Lone Star 2022 Garret Rangel. Both already hold P5 offers. In 2023 Red Oak's Chris Parson threw with precision and in the 2024 class Denton Ryan's Khalon Davis has established himself as a prospect to watch. A new name for me was Frisco Liberty 2022 DE Chika Ugoh. He checks in right around 6-2.5, 6-3 and 215-pounds and his junior film does not do him justice. On Sunday he showed some twitchiness to his game. He moved well during drills and during one-on-ones he was explosive off the edge.https://twitter.com/Jason_Howell/status/1282393343796948993?s=20This was also the first time I got to see Garland Naaman Forest 2021 DL Tommy Dunn, and someone is going to get a steal. He spent a lot of time at TE but he is now dedicating himself to DT and at 6-3, 287 he was impressive. Right now he holds offers from Kansas, UTSA, Rice, Air Force, Navy, and Columbia, and that needs to change. This guy has P5 written all over him.https://twitter.com/Jason_Howell/status/1282390106649833478?s=20Other prospects who caught my attention RB Aaron Dumas, El Paso Americas (2021)RB Zach Evans, Rockwall-Heath (2022)RB Major Everhart, Amarillo Tascosa (2022)RB Brian Okoye, Sachse (2022)WR Jalen Hale, Longview (2022)WR Bruce Mitchell, Dallas Parish Episcopal (2023)DE Kyler Jordan, Lubbock Cooper (2022)
