A few notes from ESPN's Underclass Camp - Houston
On Sunday, I drove down to Planet Ford Stadium in Spring to check out ESPN's Elite Underclass Camp. The majority of kids in attendance were 2024's or 2025's, but there were more than a few seniors-to-be in attendance looking to get invites to the Under Armour All American game in Orlando at the end of the year. Here are a few standouts that I saw in each class with maybe a note or two here and there...2023Smithson Valley OL Colton Thomasson - The A&M commit brought home offensive line MVP honors as he continues to just keep getting better. He's my Hunter Erb in this class. By the time signing day rolls around, I think we will be looking at a totally different kid than the one we saw when he first popped up on our radars. His feet have gotten so much better that I think he can stick as a right tackle. Picayne (MS) RB Dante Dowdell - Very physical kid who already holds a host of P5 offers. Built like a linebacker. Mansfield DL Kaleb James - I thought the Arkansas commit made a good account of himself. Showed plus power and get off in one-on-onesKaty Paetow LB Alex Kilgore - A kid who I think should have more offers. Passes the eye ball test rather easily and makes plays on Friday nights. 2024***Willis QB Derek Lagway - Huge tools as a quarterback prospect. Elite arm strengthStephenville OL Creece Brister - Body still needs time to mature, but he was the requisite size/feet combo to see his recruiting start taking off this summer. Lewisville OL Devin Love - A relatively new name to most of the analyst out there, Love repeatedly flashed plus athleticism and punch power in both drill work and against pass rushers.Spring Westfield OL RayQuan Bell - Likely an interior prospect, he worked out at tackle. Already holds P5 offers and will add more as he hits the camp circuit this summer. Pearland Dawson DE Edward Smith - Still skinny, but very twitchy and explosive. A&M has been sniffing around there, and he's been to campus a few times. I'll be interested to see him at camp this summer. Houston Heights OL Frank Moss - Center or guard at the next level, but you can't deny his power. Kid was an anchor against pass rushers all day. Also, his Twitter handle is Mr_IHOP. Love thatBaton Rouge (LA) OL Jude Foster - Great frame. Moves well. Still very under the radar, but he impressed all the analyst in attendance with his potential. The Woodlands OL Koltin Sieracki - I really like him as a center prospect. He'll increase his value there. Ft Bend Hightower RB Jeremy Payne - Might have been the best back there. Incredibly quick and sudden. Loved that A&M offered already. Manvel LB Kaleb Blanton - Long frame with room to fill out. Runs well in the open field. Summer Creek RB Lloyd Avant - Good blend of quicks and power. Great sophomore tape. Lumberton ATH Brock Jackson - I don't know what he plays in college yet, but there's no denying the frame and athleticism. Right at 6-4, 240 pounds and can really run. A&M is very intrigued based on what we've heard. CyFair QB Trey Owens - Long limbed QB who showed good arm strength and a repeatable delivery. High upside kid who will camp in College Station this summer. Katy Seven Lakes LB Dakyus Brinkley - Son of Jasper Brinkley. Passes the eye ball test with flying colors. He could blow up soon. Very impressive from a physicality standpoint. Wimberley QB Cash McCollum - Another really good player in the 2024 QB class. He's had a strong camp circuit so far this year. ***Silsbee ATH Drelon Miller - Won WR MVP, but he could play either side of the ball at a high level in college. Potential top 5 player in the state. Aggies in a good spot, but it's very early. CE King DB Lavonte Johnson - A great framed safety prospect that is starting to pop up in the recruiting rooms of the power programs in the region. He'll add to his offer list soon. Ft Bend Ridge Point ATH Mason Dossett - 3 sport athlete who has legit track times this spring. Plays RB and WR in high school. Explosive runnerNew Braunfels Canyon QB Deuce Adams - Smooth operator. Really clean delivery with plus athleticism. Ft Bend Hightower WR Zion Kearney - Much faster than most anticipate given he's already got a sturdy, built frame. Battling a wrist injury, but he stood out with his movement skills. Katy Taylor TE Ian Flynt - Rapidly improving prospect with P5 schools starting to take notice. Gets better every time I see him. He could have a big summer in terms of offers. ***Lake Belton WR Micah Hudson - Freaky athlete. Potential to be a top 5 player in the state in his class. He'll be a high profile, nationally recruited kid. Aggies in the mix early. 2025***Beaumont Kelly QB Roy Thomas Jenkins - Still thin, but growing in strength and athleticism quickly. Ran sub 4.8 in the 40. Spins the ball well. Katy Jordan WR Andrew Marsh - Shows elite playmaking ability every time I see him. Has a chance to be one of the top wideouts in the state in his class. Has family ties to A&MAldine Eisenhower ATH Deion DeBlanc - Electricity. Kid can flat out go. He'll be a highly offered prospect in short order. Tyler Chapel Hill QB/ATH Demetrius Brisbon - Great athlete playing QB. Impressive tape from last fall and has improved greatly as a passer this offseason. Atascocita RB Tory Blaylock - Extremely advanced physical gifts for a freshman back. Good top end speed. Offered by Oregon right after the camp ended. Dickinson OL Tyler Thomas - Massive frame that bends well. Needs more strenght, but that's coming. Jackson (MS) OL Reginald Vaughn - Promising frame and movement patterns show great potential. Massive hands that provide powerful punch. *** - Denotes A&M offer

Notes and thoughts from Thursday's Camp
-It was an offer bonanza this afternoon with scholarships handed out in the 2022, 2023, and 2024 class. The states of Texas, Washington, Georgia, and Florida were all hit and all of those guys stood out. Here's a quick recap of the offers CB Dorian Friend, Spring - Houston commit - speed, speed, speed, and fly paper cover skillsRB Tre Wisner, Waco Connally - 2023 - quick, explosive, and versatileRB Jayden Limar, Lake Stevens (WA) - 2023 - the solid build and burst caught my eye yesterdayOL Colton Thomasson, Smithson Valley - 2023 - see below DL Gabriel Harris, Thomasville (GA) Thomas County Central - 2023 - see below CB Caleb Presley, Sammamish (WA) Eastside Catholic - 2023 - he was my top DB yesterday afternoon without a doubtCB Vernon Glover Jr, Dickinson - 2023 - he may have had the most impressive showing of any CB this morningS Jack Luttrell, Dacula (GA) Hebron Christian Academy - 2023 - his footwork, athleticism, and range quickly drew attention.ATH Adam Hopkins, Thomasville (GA) Thomas County Central - 2023 - a do-it-all athlete who stands out on either side of the ballS Jaydan Hardy, Lewisville - 2024 - he can flat out go. Great offer to one of the state's best in 2024 -It was great to see Texas A&M commit Hunter Erb get out there and compete. He was not flawless as he worked at both guard and tackle but he showed strong. His footwork and power can be as strong as anyone's in the class and he handled all comers on the day. -Let's get to Julian Humphrey. The reviews were positive coming off his camp performance. He showed much better in drills and one-on-ones than I saw at the Elite Underclassmen Camp in April and I could see things picking up with the Aggies. We'll see, but I thought he showed well today. -The guy who opened my eyes the most today was Grayson Howard. The Jacksonville (FL) Andrew Jackson 2023 LB already had a Texas A&M offer when he arrived, but my goodness was he impressive. Whether it was drills, one-on-ones, or 7-on-7 he attacked it with intensity. He was first in line and he was leading the way. He also looks the part and has the makings of a first off the bus kind of guy. -The guy who jumped off the charts from an eyeball test standpoint was Gabriel Harris. The Thomasville (GA) Thomas County Central he did not workout today because he was icing up an injury, but my goodness he is how you draw up a defensive lineman. The 6-4, 240-pound standout walked in the room and owned it. Seeing him in person combined with his tape was enough for Jimbo to put that offer on the table. https://www.hudl.com/video/3/12353967/5f8c2874bd754b0990826e57 -I really like the Colton Thomasson offer. This is one I thought might happen after I saw him at the Elite Underclassmen Camp in April. He has put in a tremendous amount of work to reshape his body and his athleticism has surfaced as he has grown and matured. He has lost about 70 pounds since I saw him as a giant 8th grader and he checks in right around 6-7, 330. -Fort Worth Nolan Catholic 2023 Kaleb James also caught my attention. I thought he had the best day of any defensive lineman. He was constantly at the front of the line during one-on-ones. It seemed like he was always taking a rep and he went after the top guys at the camp. He worked inside and outside and I thought he made a strong case for an offer. He is a little bit of a tweener and the in-state d-line talent in 2023 is very deep. He did not get the Texas A&M offer today, but I think he firmly planted himself on the radar. -Waco Connally 2024 CB Kobe Black was another of my favorite standouts who did not get the offer today. I would put him and Tallahassee (FL) John Paul II CB Makari Vickers. Those two both had great size and athleticism for the DB position and were locking guys up in one-on-one drills. -The QB position had some real head turners today. Choctow (OK) 2023 Steele Wasel, Richmond Foster 2023 JT Fayard, Pearland Shadow Creek 2023 Duke Butler, and Willis 2024 Derek Lagway all spun the ball well today.

Expected unofficials and camp names to watch
The final piece to our 5 part June visitor overview takes a look at some of the key names to know that we are expecting to see in College Station throughout the entirety of the month of June as unofficial visitors and/or campers. First off, there are going to be many more names come to campus than we have listed here. There's no way to get a grasp of every single D1 prospect that will be coming to camps. The unofficial visitors are a bit easier to get a hold of, but we'll likely be missing a handful of names, plus or minus. With that said, here's what we've been able to gather so far. It's still a pretty extensive list. If we've got dates of the visits, I'll add those as well. TexAgs National Average Rating

The TexAgs National Average Rating is a proprietary formula that calculates an industry-wide aggregate rating for each recruiting prospect. The formula includes publicly listed grades, scores, ratings and rankings by national recruiting services, along with a TexAgs rating. Combining the data provides a rating for each prospect, which is then normalized to fit the TexAgs Rating 100-point scale.

The intent of this rating is to provide TexAgs readers with a comprehensive snapshot of how individual prospects rank nationally.

Staff Predictions

The predictions represent which school each staff member believes will ultimately sign the recruit, and the confidence meter represents his level of certainty in that outcome.

Example #1

If the predicted school is Texas A&M and confidence is set to “High”, then the staff member is saying “I believe that this recruit will ultimately sign with Texas A&M and I feel very certain about that.”

Example #2

If the predicted school is “Alabama” and confidence is set to “Low,” then the staff member is saying “I believe that this recruit will ultimately sign with Alabama, but I’m not very certain about that.”
