Thursday night recruiting updates
- I mentioned the 2022 "commitment day" that's been thrown around a little bit in my stickied post from earlier today. I checked around further on that this afternoon, and while I do think it's something that's been discussed, I'm still rather skeptical about it happening. Now, could I see a scenario where A&M rattled off a handful of verbal commitments in a short period of time? Yes, absolutely. However, I believe that if something like 4-5 targets all announced on a certain day, it would be something that was planned completely behind the scenes by those kids. It would be epic and fun to cover, but I'm not sold on it just yet. We've seen Fisher and his staff go on these runs where they pick up more than a few of their top targets over the course of a month though. Aggies would have to close on some top priorities, but that type of scenario is certainly possible with the way things are going. - Oradell (NJ) DT Tywone Malone is expected to be in College Station on Friday night. My sources I spoke with today maintained that Elijah Robinson's relationship with Malone and his folks had the Aggies in an advantageous position ahead of the trip. Reminder: Malone and his party cannot have any contact with the A&M football or baseball coaching staffs. This is simply a reconnaissance mission like they went on last week to Florida State and are planning to do next week at Ole Miss. - A Houston area source I spoke with today still felt like the Aggies held an advantage for CyFair RB LJ Johnson Jr. It's still unclear as to whether LJ will enroll early or not, but the time to make that type of decision is definitely dwindling. I believe the last enrollments can arrive next week at the latest. I do know that talks and conversations continue between LJ and the A&M staff as well as other Aggie signees. - Name to keep an eye out for in 2022 is Clear Lake CB Julian Humphrey. He picked up an A&M offer prior to last season, and he has gotten off to a fantastic start on the 7 on 7 circuit - winning Defensive MVP at the big Pylon tournament in DFW last weekend. - Some people asked earlier about A&M's pursuit of 2022 Klein Cain RB Jaydon Blue. The Aggies are certainly recruiting him, but as things stand today, it feels like LSU, Texas, and Alabama would be at the forefront. We'll see if Jimbo and company can make up some ground this off-season.

TexAgs National Average Rating

The TexAgs National Average Rating is a proprietary formula that calculates an industry-wide aggregate rating for each recruiting prospect. The formula includes publicly listed grades, scores, ratings and rankings by national recruiting services, along with a TexAgs rating. Combining the data provides a rating for each prospect, which is then normalized to fit the TexAgs Rating 100-point scale.

The intent of this rating is to provide TexAgs readers with a comprehensive snapshot of how individual prospects rank nationally.

TexAgs Rating

The TexAgs Recruiting team of Billy Liucci, David Sandhop, Jason Howell, Ryan Brauninger and a host of recruiting interns attends more than 75 games each fall and observes and evaluates every major Texas A&M target, as well as most of the top 150 prospects in the State of Texas. From this evaluation the team draws a rating for each prospect on a scale between 70 and 100.

99-100: Elite national prospect (Five-star)

Considered one of the best prospects in the nation and a likely difference-maker at the collegiate level. Displays all of the physical skills to be a future All-American with potential to be an early-round NFL draft pick.

90-98: Elite state prospect (Four-star)

Considered one of the best 30-40 prospects in the state and a top 250 national prospect. Displays the physical skills to be a major early contributor at the collegiate level with high professional potential.

80-89: Quality prospect (Three-star)

Considered one of the best 100 prospects in the state and a top 500 national prospect. Displays the physical skills to develop into a contributor over the course of his college career. Has the ability to become a professional prospect over time with development.

70-79: Solid prospect (Two-star)

Considered one of the top 250 prospects in the state. Has the physical skills to be a potential contributor at a D-1 program over the course of his collegiate career with significant development. Professional potential is low.

Staff Predictions

The predictions represent which school each staff member believes will ultimately sign the recruit, and the confidence meter represents his level of certainty in that outcome.

Example #1

If the predicted school is Texas A&M and confidence is set to “High”, then the staff member is saying “I believe that this recruit will ultimately sign with Texas A&M and I feel very certain about that.”

Example #2

If the predicted school is “Alabama” and confidence is set to “Low,” then the staff member is saying “I believe that this recruit will ultimately sign with Alabama, but I’m not very certain about that.”
