LB Recruiting update
About a week or so ago, I posted a note containing lot of the names I'd been hearing A&M had been pushing for the hardest at linebacker. Last night and in to today, I circled back on some sources to see what the latest was with a few of those top targets. Here's what I was able to round up...- Duncanville LB Kendrick Blackshire continues to be right near the top of the Aggies' wishlist from what I've been able to piece together. We've been saying for a while that it feels like Kendrick will play his college ball in the SEC, and I wouldn't come off that prediction at this juncture. The Aggie coaching staff continues to have the accelerator down on this one as Tyler Santucci, Mike Elko, and Terry Price are driving the Maroon & White bus. Alabama and LSU are the primary competitors along with Oklahoma and A&M. This one feels like a recruitment that Jimbo and company aren't going to relinquish on anytime soon. - A source in the southeast thinks the Aggies might have taken one on the chin with Dallas (GA) standout Smael Mondon due to the cancellations of visits. I was told it's going to be tough to pull him out of immediate proximity without getting a spring visit. We'll see if A&M can work their magic and get him on campus perhaps this summer. - I was told the Aggies have recently been in contact with Graceville (FL) ATH/LB Xavian Sorey. However, it sounds like that one is coming down to an Alabama/Georgia battle. - Shadow Creek LB Terrence Cooks isn't in too big a hurry to make a decision from what I know. A Houston area source did tell me that prior to the suspension of high school activities, Cooks was going to be one of the first stops for the A&M defensive staff this spring. This one has the early look of an in-state tussle between the Aggies and Longhorns though. - Another our of state name the Aggies are keeping tabs on is Baltimore (MD) standout Jamon Dumas-Johnson. A contact in the northeast told me it's really hard to peg down which way that recruitment is headed currently. Again, this could be one, like Mondon, where the current state of affairs really hamstrings the Aggies' chances.
