A few Monday morning notes
-I was at an OL/DL Camp yesterday afternoon in DFW with a lot of area coaches and the reports back on coach Henson are really strong. It should come as no surprise he is held in high regard, but it was nice to hear such unanimous praise.-I heard a little buzz on a couple of top 2021 guys. LB Kendrick Blackshire had a great visit to College Station the other weekend, but keep an eye on Alabama. The Tide are very high on his list and Nick Saban has made a very strong impression. From what I was told I would say they are the leaders, and the main competition to Texas A&M right now. The Aggies have been all over RB Camar Wheaton too, and he is high on the Aggies according to sources close to his recruiting. I would not declare any leaders or anything, but I was told the Aggies have made him a high priority and he knows it.-Back to the camp. Most of these guys don't have a lot going on in recruiting right now, but if you're looking for a few under the radar 2020s or some new names to watch I have a few for you. OL Caleb Rogers, Mansfield Lake Ridge (2020) 6-5, 275, big framed prospect with bend and feet. He's hearing from programs like Mizzou and ULM right now.https://twitter.com/Jason_Howell/status/1094736130724057088DT Trayveon Newton, Lancaster (2020) 6-2, 275, and he showed some nice explosion throughout the day. He gets a bit high at times, but he's really coming on. I look for things to pick up in the spring and see him as a P5 prospect.https://twitter.com/Jason_Howell/status/1094727526012850182OL Chinemerem Nnanna, Arlington Seguin (2020) This guy worked at OL all day and he is very skinny for an OL. However, he has tremendous length and he showed well at OT. OL Daimonte Williams, Mesquite Horn (2020) At 6-3, 300, he's a mauler in the middle. Strong, nasty, and he can snap the ball. Kansas State, TCU, and Abilene Christian have come on strong at this point.OL McKenzie Agnello, Copperas Cove (2021) There may not have been a nastier player. I saw him at the Next Level Athlete a few weeks ago and he caught my attention there. He did it again as he finished blocks yesterday.https://twitter.com/Jason_Howell/status/1094722710716977152DT Tommy Dunn, Garland Naaman Forest (2021) Big kid at 6-3, 260, and he showed a nice get off. He's not refined but he has some intriguing tools. https://twitter.com/Jason_Howell/status/1094732283838373889DT Byron Murphy II, DeSoto (2021) Murphy took home DL MVP honors yesterday and at 6-2, 250 he already holds an offer from Colorado. This guy is compact and quick off the ball. He'll have several offers before he's done.OL Kelvin Banks, Humble Summer Creek (2022) The size initially jumped out. He has a big frame, long arms, and he's an athlete with flexibility. During one-on-ones he also showed well. https://twitter.com/Jason_Howell/status/1094718623103488001OL Sheridan Wilson, Argyle (2022) Wilson was light on his feet and played with very good technique. He's light in the seat at 6-4, 235, but he has a great frame. His brother is Oklahoma State signee Preston Wilson.DT Davion Carter, North Mesquite (2022) Compact and powerful are two words that come to mind. He played varsity ball as a freshman and has a 400-pound squat. The 6-0, 280-pounder was impressive.https://twitter.com/Jason_Howell/status/1094729504474443777OL Lajuan Owens, Keller Fossil Ridge (2023) 6-3, 310 and he can move. I know it's young but put this guy on your radar. He was far from out of place yesterday.https://twitter.com/Jason_Howell/status/1094717794346823681
