Never too soon: Previewing the 2020 A&M squad position-by-position
The Aggies had a productive campaign in 2019, capping off the season with a big bowl victory over Oklahoma State. But with an infusion of new talent coming into the program, Texas A&M looks to be even better next season.

A few 2021 notes
Oradell (NJ) Bergen Catholic DT Tywone Malone visited Texas A&M with teammate Jordan Morant in the fall and he hopes to make it back to College Station this summer."Just the culture there, the 12th Man, it's just something you look into," Malone said. "That's like the definition of a brotherhood. They're all for one another, they're not playing selfish. They just all play together."A two-sport standout, Malone keeps in touch with defensive tackle coach Elijah Robinson on a regular basis. Baseball is expected to factor into his decision. When he was in College Station in the fall he saw some of what the Aggie program had to offer, but he would like to get to know the coaches more. Duncanville (TX) OL/DL Savion Byrd mentioned Texas A&M has started communicating more often and College Station is one of his possible spring visit destinations. LSU, Texas, and Oklahoma are a few others, with LSU showing the most attention. Byrd could project to DT or OL and was a standout on defense this fall. He could very easily draw attention as a defender. The Aggies have been considered an early frontrunner for DeSoto (TX) DE Shemar Turner, but the word I have received of late has Alabama, LSU, and Texas making a furious push to the front of his list. The Aggies remain in the mix, but there is work to be done here. I look for the Aggies to push to get him back on campus soon. He came away very impressed with the Aggies after last years' summer camp and an in-season visit only helped push the Aggies further up his list. Miami (FL) Northwestern S Kamren Kinchens piqued the attention of Texas A&M fans recently when he tweeted #GigEm. He has been in contact with the Texas A&M staff and the Aggies are generating some buzz in South Florida. Coach Ish Aristide has been a big reason for that with many strong ties to the area. The Aggies saw that pay off in a big way in the 2020 class with DE Donell Harris choosing the Aggies over Florida on Signing Day. The Aggies are also very much in the mix for Miami Northwestern LB Terrence Lewis. Another OOS defensive back I would keep an eye on is Fort Smith (AR) Northside CB Dreyden Norwood. The Aggies offered in December and the 6-1, 175-pound cornerback, with Coach Linguist doing the honors.

TexAgs National Average Rating

The TexAgs National Average Rating is a proprietary formula that calculates an industry-wide aggregate rating for each recruiting prospect. The formula includes publicly listed grades, scores, ratings and rankings by national recruiting services, along with a TexAgs rating. Combining the data provides a rating for each prospect, which is then normalized to fit the TexAgs Rating 100-point scale.

The intent of this rating is to provide TexAgs readers with a comprehensive snapshot of how individual prospects rank nationally.

TexAgs Rating

The TexAgs Recruiting team of Billy Liucci, David Sandhop, Jason Howell, Ryan Brauninger and a host of recruiting interns attends more than 75 games each fall and observes and evaluates every major Texas A&M target, as well as most of the top 150 prospects in the State of Texas. From this evaluation the team draws a rating for each prospect on a scale between 70 and 100.

99-100: Elite national prospect (Five-star)

Considered one of the best prospects in the nation and a likely difference-maker at the collegiate level. Displays all of the physical skills to be a future All-American with potential to be an early-round NFL draft pick.

90-98: Elite state prospect (Four-star)

Considered one of the best 30-40 prospects in the state and a top 250 national prospect. Displays the physical skills to be a major early contributor at the collegiate level with high professional potential.

80-89: Quality prospect (Three-star)

Considered one of the best 100 prospects in the state and a top 500 national prospect. Displays the physical skills to develop into a contributor over the course of his college career. Has the ability to become a professional prospect over time with development.

70-79: Solid prospect (Two-star)

Considered one of the top 250 prospects in the state. Has the physical skills to be a potential contributor at a D-1 program over the course of his collegiate career with significant development. Professional potential is low.

Staff Predictions

The predictions represent which school each staff member believes will ultimately sign the recruit, and the confidence meter represents his level of certainty in that outcome.

Example #1

If the predicted school is Texas A&M and confidence is set to “High”, then the staff member is saying “I believe that this recruit will ultimately sign with Texas A&M and I feel very certain about that.”

Example #2

If the predicted school is “Alabama” and confidence is set to “Low,” then the staff member is saying “I believe that this recruit will ultimately sign with Alabama, but I’m not very certain about that.”
