A return to prominence: Examining the 2022 in-state linebacker class
The talent around Texas high school football is apparently and always has been. However, in recent years, the skill at linebacker has taken a step back, but with a deep crop of talent in the class of 2022, that is about to change.

A few Wednesday night notes
- Be on the lookout for our junior day list. We will likely drop that tomorrow afternoon or evening. It's going to be impressive in terms of quality. - Perhaps the biggest piece of intel I received today was in regards to key CB target Tony Grimes out of Virginia. The consensus 5-star was seen by the A&M staff last week at school. Grimes and his inner circle have begun their relationship with new CB coach TJ Rushing, and thus, have altered their visit schedule with the Aggies just a bit. The originally scheduled official visit this spring now looks like it will be an unofficial, and it sounds like it will happen the weekend of A&M's spring game. He'll then take an official visit later on in the cycle as he gets closer to decision time. Overall, I view this as a decisively positive circumstance in terms of A&M's chances to land Tony. Clemson, Penn State, and Alabama are all accompanying the Ags in that top group, as of now. - A source in The Woodlands tells me LB coach Tyler Santucci went by the school recently to see rapidly rising 2022 LB Martrell Harris and left extremely impressed with what he saw in terms of his physical attributes and frame. The kid already has the look of an SEC backer, but he doesn't have sophomore tape due to sitting out after transferring from Grand Oaks. Harris was recently offered by Mississippi St and will have his choice of where he wants to go play his collegiate ball. I expect his stock to sky rocket once the camp circuit hits in full force. - How about the group of emerging linebackers in 2022? For the first time in a long time, there's a plethora of P5 options that reside in the Lone Star State at the position.Martrell Harris - The WoodlandsJordan Crook - DuncanvilleKobie McKinzie - Lubbock CooperTy Kana - KatyJustin Medlock - ManvelWalker Polk - Coppell- I'm told Woodville LB Jacorey Hyder will not be in College Station this weekend, but he does remain an intriguing prospect to keep an eye on down the road for A&M. Could he be this year's Kenneth Phillips where the Aggie staff keeps him warm until they can get their eyes on him at summer camp? It's possible.

A couple of Good Friday recruiting notes
By now, I'm sure most of you have seen the thread with video of Ft Bend Marshall ATH Devon Achane running a 20.4 in the 200 meter dash yesterday. I can tell you that video has made its rounds with a lot of college football coaches and, according to a source in the thick of things at Ft Bend Marshall, caught the eye of Jimbo Fisher and his staff. My source indicated to me that Achane is a top tier prospect in the eyes of the A&M staff. This spring, Achane has heard serious overtures from Auburn and LSU. Many folks in the know thought he would go off the board in December after the Aggies offered right before the Buffs played for a state championship. My intel and read on the situation makes me believe A&M is still the leader, but there's work to be done. If you're trying to add Achane to the potential RB or WR class and are subsequently worried about numbers at either spot, don't. Achane is a unique talent that can change a game from a number of positions. I'd give him his own category if you're keeping tabs at home.Continue to firmly believe the Aggies are the team to beat for DE Fadil Diggs. To further what Jason said in his three things this morning, there's a strong OU vibe coming off the recruitment of Little Elm CB Ryan Watts. The LB drought in Texas looks like it could be ending soon. In 2021, New Caney backer Derrick Harris Jr reached out to me and told me he was trying to get to A&M as soon as he could. He's a twitchy, rangy LB prospect with a long frame that should hold good weight. A little further down, I've been told A&M is going to evaluate a pair of freshmen LB's this spring and summer that have turned a lot of heads already in Coppell's Walker Polk and Katy's Ty Kana. I've been told by a few people in Katy that Kana looks like he's going to be one of the best they've had there in recent history.

Quick hitting Friday night recruiting notes
-As the LB search continues, I continue to hear Vic Viramontes' name being thrown around. Also, an out of state source indicated that Michigan based ATH Jaren Mangham could resurface on the A&M board. He was being recruited at RB and LB, and if you'll remember, his mom ran track at Texas A&M. -New name to watch in 2020 is Hoover (AL) QB Robby Ashford. He's had a dynamite junior season after rebounding from a baseball injury last spring/summer. -2021 OL Reuben Fatheree was not able to make it to Kyle Field last weekend because his father, who's the head basketball coach at Richmond Foster, had to coach. Reuben did express some remorse for not making it from what I understand. He told a source that he knew he missed a classic. Jimmy Turner was by the school this week to visit with Rueben. -If you've been waiting for LB's to emerge in Texas, it looks like 2022 could be the year early on. Howell has talked about Walker Polk out of Coppell, and I just got a tip from a Houston area source about Katy High 2022 backer Ty Kana. He's been getting more snaps at inside linebacker for the Tigers and looks like a future stud. -Not huge news, but I've heard tonight that A&M has offered a PWO spot to local OL and Aggie legacy Reid Francis from A&M Consolidated. Francis currently holds several FCS and a few Ivy League offers.

TexAgs National Average Rating

The TexAgs National Average Rating is a proprietary formula that calculates an industry-wide aggregate rating for each recruiting prospect. The formula includes publicly listed grades, scores, ratings and rankings by national recruiting services, along with a TexAgs rating. Combining the data provides a rating for each prospect, which is then normalized to fit the TexAgs Rating 100-point scale.

The intent of this rating is to provide TexAgs readers with a comprehensive snapshot of how individual prospects rank nationally.

Staff Predictions

The predictions represent which school each staff member believes will ultimately sign the recruit, and the confidence meter represents his level of certainty in that outcome.

Example #1

If the predicted school is Texas A&M and confidence is set to “High”, then the staff member is saying “I believe that this recruit will ultimately sign with Texas A&M and I feel very certain about that.”

Example #2

If the predicted school is “Alabama” and confidence is set to “Low,” then the staff member is saying “I believe that this recruit will ultimately sign with Alabama, but I’m not very certain about that.”
