Miscellaneous recruiting notes - Tuesday morning
I got to check in with 3-4 sources yesterday on a handful of top A&M targets as many of the Aggie coaches hit the road to visit high schools. Here's what I was able to gather...- The bye week is typically used for the staff to get out and see their top targets but also to see young prospects and offer candidates. We saw the first offer go out yesterday in the form of 2021 Katy CB Hunter Washington. Two in-state names that I'm hearing are receiving a lot of attention currently are 2022 Dickinson TE Donovan Green as well as 2022 Katy LB Ty Kana. Green stands 6-4 and weighs in just north of 200 pounds. He checks every box for a young, highly rated tight end and is beginning to grab the offers to match as Georgia, Oklahoma, LSU, and Texas have already extended offers. A&M was by there this week to see him. Kana's early season tape is super impressive, and a source in Katy I spoke with thinks he's got a chance to leave the storied Tiger program as one of its best linebackers ever. I've also heard Ty ran the 200 in the 22 second range, and his father, Tim, actually played for Bradley Dale Peveto back in the day. Ty burst on to the Aggie radar when he camped at A&M over the summer. - Josh Henson was at Katy Taylor yesterday to see 2021 OL Bryce Foster. Foster remains at the very top of the Aggies' 2021 wish list regardless of position.- Speaking of Peveto, the Aggie LB coach swung by North Shore yesterday to see the Mustangs' laundry list of college players. According to a source on the east side of Houston, Peveto took long looks at Zach Evans, Dematrius Davis, Jaeden Roberts, and Denver Harris - all of which hold A&M offers and are considered top targets in their respective classes. Regarding Evans, I'm still hearing better things on the Maroon & White side, but I haven't gotten anything concrete enough to believe that a decision in the near future would be to the Aggies. Like we've said though, if he does make a public announcement soon, I still expect this one to have some more intrigue as signing day inches closer. I know the conversations between Demas and Evans have been positive for A&M. Based on my knowledge of the situation, I also believe the conversations between Zach and the Aggie coaching staff have been productive and quality. However, it's kind of feels similar to the Vernon Broughton recruitment at the moment. In other words, there's a good chance other schools pursuing Evans feel similarly. It's been a tough read, no doubt. - I've heard A&M DC Mike Elko will be out of state this week to see new commit Antonio Johnson as well as long time target Vito Tisdale. Elko has spent a lot of time on Vito so you'd like to think the Aggies are still very much in the running, but they're going to have to get him to campus this fall. Tisdale recently listed A&M in his top 4. - The news emanating from Norman after Hazlewood (MO) LB Antonio Doyle's visit to see the Sooners is interesting. Some OU insiders have published their thoughts indicating A&M still lead after the visit. This kind of coincides with what was relayed to me last night. I was told Doyle still holds the Aggies in high esteem, and that he was scheduled to speak with A&M staffers on the phone again early this week. - Lastly, a source out west told me A&M has remained in talks with Orem (UT) LB Noah Sewell and his family. I'm still calling this a long shot, but I'm really starting to warm up to the fact that the kid is going to show on campus for that official visit this fall - likely next week when the Aggies host Alabama.
