Notes from stops at Mesquite Poteet and a few other places today
I made several stops across the DFW area today. My final stop was Mesquite Poteet's practice this afternoon to see RB Seth McGowan. He says he is now tipping the scales at around 220 and he is in great shape. There weren't a lot of highlights of him because the Poteet coaches have already seen plenty of what he can do, but it is easy to see McGowan wants to get in there and compete. What I did see from the few plays he had was a great burst and a versatile athlete. McGowan is a freaking stud.He recently named the Aggies in his final four along with Georgia, Oklahoma, and USC. He takes his first official visit this weekend to Oklahoma, he has Georgia scheduled for the May 17 weekend. He will take two weeks off the road before visiting Texas A&M. It's looking like June 7 but he wasn't sure on that. He does have the visit scheduled though. He Then he will finish with a visit to USC the weekend of June 21. Look for him to make his decision shortly after the USC visit and he will be a December graduate. He has connected well with coach Graham and coach Fisher throughout this process and the Aggies have a made their interest well known. For instance, today, Texas A&M signee Dylan Wright stopped by Poteet's practice for a quick appearance. He has also been hearing from Cibolo Steele DB Jaylon Jones. We will have more from him laterI also dropped by Cedar Hill, DeSoto, and Lancaster today. All three programs are incredibly talent rich for the next several years. The Aggies are keeping an eye on DeSoto 2021 Shemar Turner, and I would say he has the most potential to receive an A&M offer in the future. He has been a standout at multiple camps this spring and at 6-4, 260-pounds he passes the eyeball test with flying colors. Look for his stock to soar as coaches see him this spring and he attends summer camps. He doesn't have any definite plans but look for him to make a stop at schools like Texas and Texas A&M this summer. Right now, it sounds like the Longhorns hold a bit of an edge for him. Lancaster 2021 WR Ketron Jackson is another the Aggies are watching closely. He has some nice size at 6-foot-2, 175-pounds but he also has some blazing speed. He has been clocked with a 9.9 split in the 4x100 relay. Arkansas and Illinois are a few schools coming on very strong and he has a strong relationship with Kansas assistant Emmet Jones who was the first to extend an offer. Alabama, Stanford, and Notrre Dame are also heavily involved.I also caught up with a few under the radar guys. One who immediately jumped out when I saw him was Lancaster 2021 OL Joseph Amos. He didn't start on varsity last fall but look for him to step things up in 2019. At 6-5.5, 320-pounds Amos is a calf roper and he is cousins with Texas A&M's Larry Pryor. He currently holds offers from Alabama A&M and Carroll College.https://twitter.com/Jason_Howell/status/1123647290152034305In Cedar Hill my hand was crushed by the handshake of 6-1, 200-pound 2021 LB Jaheim Lowe. I don't know how he moves, but lets just say he has coaches excited and my hand still feels that handshake hours later. Cedar Hill 2021 DE Charles Esters (6-3, 225) and 2021 LB Ian Bradley (6-2, 210) are also guys to watch. Esters also plays basketball and has some great length and a big frame. https://twitter.com/Jason_Howell/status/1123744444983984128The Horns have a trio of 2022s with Baylor offers too. RBs Chris Hicks and Kylon Ashton check in at 5-9, 160, ad S Jalon Peoples stands in at 5-11, 160. Peoples is the little brother of former Cedar Hill standouts Richard and Dimitri Moore.https://twitter.com/Jason_Howell/status/1123746491691040771There's so much to keep an eye on from these programs I know I'm leaving out some guys like Majik Rector and few more but I wanted to highlight some new guys in here. DeSoto also has a deep roster of 2022s worth keeping and eye on. 6-1, 175-pound Jaylan Bean has people in DeSoto raving about his abilities as a WR. The words natural and great routes were used to describe his game.

Notes from the road
Over the last few weeks I have made several high school visits around the DFW area to check out some top targets so lets drop some notes-Lancaster's receiving corp is as strong as any I have seen in the state. They have size, talent, and quickness throughout the lineup. Look for big things from 2019 Chris Green, 2020s Latrell Caples and Ladarius Fair, and 2021s Ketron Jackson and Majik Rector.https://twitter.com/Jason_Howell/status/997177143267381248-Put Chris Green down as a super sleeper. At 6-3, 180 pounds, he passes the eyeball test with no problem and he has a 4.0 GPA. Indiana is his only offer but Arizona State, Vanderbilt, and Minnesota appear to be close to pulling the trigger. I could see this guy blowing up on the summer camp circuit.-A&M has not offered any Tigers yet, but there are a few guys on the radar. 2020 CB Lorando Johnson and 2021 WR Ketron Jackson both plan to visit A&M in early June. 2021 WR Majik Rector has already visited and when I showed up to the school he was in A&M gear. 2020 WR LaTrell Caples (6-0, 175) is another who has expressed a high interest in A&M. Caples already holds offers from Ole Miss, Illinois, Syracuse, and Boston College. -Ketron Jackson is a guy I mentioned last spring after he clocked a 10.6 100m as an eighth grader. Now he stands in at 6-1, 175 and he was a standout on the track (long jump, high jump, sprint relays) and on the basketball court. He currently holds offers from Baylor, Texas Tech, Ole Miss, and Indiana.-2021 OL continues to see new prospects emerge and Lancaster has a couple to watch. I did not get to see 6-5, 280-pound Joseph Amos, because he was out with a broken hand. He returned this week and it looks like he will start at right tackle in the fall. 6-4, 250-pound Javirea Moore is another to watch. He has a big frame and once the strength comes along he has the potential to shoot up the radars of college coaches.-Down the road in Cedar Hill I saw one of the most electric guys I saw this spring. 2020 Quin Bright worked at both running back and slot receiver during Cedar Hill's spring game. He definitely brings the speed to the table. He showed that as a member of Cedar Hill's state qualifying 4x1 and 4x2 relay teams. During the game he was the Horns most consistent offense. He hit holes, and he shook up defenders. His quickness makes him an instant mismatch and I look for Cedar Hill to get him the ball in a variety of ways next fall.-One guy I did not get to see work was 2020 OL Courtland Ford. He did not go through contact drills this spring, and he missed most of 2017 after undergoing corrective surgery. He has been working with trainers and coaches throughout the spring and he has shown the flexibility and footwork to go along with his size. He did visit Texas A&M in the spring and the recruiting process has taken off during the evaluation period.https://twitter.com/BigClint37/status/981906823157600256-Out in East Texas I saw one of the more intriguing prospects I've seen this spring. Tyler Lee ATH Jamal Ligon earned all-district honors at LB and FB, and at 6-3, 245 he is a unique type of player. This is a guy I could see turning into quite the athletic defensive tackle if he continues to grow. He already holds an offer from Texas State, and I look for that list to continue to grow.-A guy I cannot wait to find out more about is Tyler Lee 2021 DL Garfield Lawrence. He has some very intriguing length at 6-3 and 250 pounds. I didn't get to see him put in work on the football field, but I was told he turned several heads with his performance throughout the spring and during the spring game. Right now he looks like a DE but it is also easy to project him to more of an interior spot in the future. Put him down on the watch list for now.https://www.hudl.com/video/3/10172242/5afaec02a6768c12b0a25906-I have seen Mesquite 2021 LB Kendrick Blackshire before, but shaking his hand is a different story all together. He has a monster grip and about crushed my hand. No, he wasn't trying to either, he just has a firm handshake and big hands. -Mesquite Horn is one of my favorite stops. I love their athletes. There always seems to be a grit to them. Quarterback Jermaine Givens (6-0, 190) embodies that. He is a strong minded, intelligent, athletic ball player who is also working at receiver and defensive back this spring just so he can show college coaches he is willing and able. He has yet to receive an offer, but this guy is going to be an absolute steal for someone. I expect to see him turn some heads on the summer camp circuit and start seeing those offers roll in. Running back Esaias Taylor is another. The 5-10, 205-pound back has a stout build and he is a tough runner. -Horn's 2020 class has a couple more to keep an eye on. Wide receiver Donovan Payne stands out at 6-5, 195 pounds, and offensive lineman Ar'Maj Adams-Reed (6-4, 280) catches the eye even if he is not in pads. Adams-Reed was out with an injury when I stopped by practice.

A few Thursday recruiting notes
My second stop of the day was to Lancaster, and that is one loaded team. The Aggies have not offered anyone yet, but 2020 cornerback Lorando Johnson remains a strong candidate. Coaches Elko and Linguist were among the coaches in attendance today and he was a guy they were keeping a close eye on. I mentioned him earlier this week as the top-rated guy in 2020 yet to receive an offer. That did not change today, but the Aggies are making their interest known. I was told the Aggies are a team he would be interested in if an offer were placed on the table.2021 WRs Majik Rector and Ketron Jackson are another couple to watch. Both already hold FBS offers and Rector arrived for athletic period wearing Texas A&M gear. He visited in the spring and the Aggies are high on his list. Jackson ran a 10.7 100m as an 8th grader and he was offered by Ole Miss yesterday. I bet we see both in College Station this summer. The WRs at Lancaster are flat out loaded and it is home to maybe the state's top 2019 sleeper. 6-3, 175-pound Chris Green has been offered by some FCS programs but he had a few different FBS coaches watching him closely today. He has a lot of length to work with but he's skinny right now. Physically though, he stands out and during drills he ran crisp routes. Lancaster also has a few 2021 guys in the trenches. OL Javirea Moore is already 6-4, 250-pounds with plenty of room to fill out. OL Joseph Amos is even bigger. He's listed at 6-5, 280. He was not at practice today because he was getting a cast removed from his arm. At DT Vernon Henderson is a guy to watch at 6-0, 260.*************The Aggies are going to be busy in DFW today. Elko and Linguist are visiting Dallas Carter, Waxahachie, Duncanville, and Bishop Dunne today in addition to their stop by Lancaster. Carter is home to Branard Wright, Waxahachie is home to Demani Richardson, Bishop Dunne to Brian Williams, Marquez Beason, and Brennon Scott, and Duncanville is home to Chris Thompson and Ja'Quinden Jackson.I also hear the Aggies checked in on Highland Park 2020 DE Prince Dorbah. He has put together quite the spring. This fall he had a strong showing, but I hear he has taken things to a different level in the spring. Consider him firmly on Texas A&M's radar.

Staff Predictions

The predictions represent which school each staff member believes will ultimately sign the recruit, and the confidence meter represents his level of certainty in that outcome.

Example #1

If the predicted school is Texas A&M and confidence is set to “High”, then the staff member is saying “I believe that this recruit will ultimately sign with Texas A&M and I feel very certain about that.”

Example #2

If the predicted school is “Alabama” and confidence is set to “Low,” then the staff member is saying “I believe that this recruit will ultimately sign with Alabama, but I’m not very certain about that.”
