For those interested in seeing a few more pictures. I would have taken more had the shanks not ruined my round.

I had fun, it was a nice course and the greens were gigantic! Back 9, was more fun for me I enjoy the targets as opposed to the links-style of the front 9. The elevation drops on a few of the par 3's were neat and I'd love to get used to them, so I'd have a better club in my hand next time!

Found a couple greens tough to hold on approach(when I did hit a good shot). Will definitely go again when I'm hitting the ball clean again.

Looks pretty good. I wish I would have played it. I always went to Pine Forrest.

Looking at these pics makes me sad. Played this weekend and tee boxes are crap. Rough/weeds so think IN and off the fairway you can't find any balls. And add in the fact it's CPO it makes for a brutal round. The Marshall even had the nerve to say they are getting the course in shape to start hosting some type of pga sanctioned events. lol. Okay buddy.

Greens were fine though.

Back at the turn of the century, it was a great track. Easily the best public course in the Austin area

We played it about a year ago with a big group before our fantasy draft. Boy that was bad.

I've played it pretty consistently over the past decade or so, but never back in its hey day. What the hell happened? I wish I could've played it decades ago.

The old boy that owned and developed the land was an Ag. He died and the family got tired of throwing money into the course and shut it down. Not so fast said the HOA, suing saying that they purchased their lot in a golf course community. The court agreed and awarded the course to the HOA, whose members cannot afford to properly maintain it. It desperately needs to be purchased by Troon or Sterling Golf. In the condition it used to be in, I'd put it a notch above Avery Ranch

Interesting. I know the current pro/manager of the course is from Austin County and used to run SFA. I wish him luck but I just don't understand what they are trying to do right now. I understand them wanting to keep carts off the fairway to get the grass to grow by damn it's the middle of summer and the entire back 9 is up and down. At least mow the rough where you can find balls and not slow down play even more than it already is since you are walking back and forth.

Yes. If there was ever a course to be had on the cheap and could get polished up to be really good again, Colovista is it. I think they even filmed some Walking Dead episodes at the mansion on site.

Was that the club house in the Dennis Quaid golf flick about the team from Del Rio?

Yes, and it is also where they film the Heisman commercials

Only time I played it was around the date of the original post.

Went there with a group. Rooms were nice. Someone from the course pulled a trailer grill and cooked steaks for us on the fairway right behind the condos. We played some sort of short game contest while he prepared.

Wanted to go back but every time I look it up online the reviews are very few and all bad.

My dad and I played out there quite a bit when I was in highschool circa 1998-2002. We even had our Prom there. It was immaculate! We met the owner a couple of times. He was a nice down to earth Aggie. Colo Vista was his baby. He lost millions on it and the kids didn't want it after he passed. Can't blame them I guess. I'm just glad I got to enjoy it during its prime.

Is there anything else in the general area that would be good for a visit? We played Lost Pines 2 years ago, and Colovista last year... would love to find something in between. Lost Pines up to $150 on a Friday afternoon. Its decent but not nearly worth that.

Shadowglen in Manor is the nicest course closest to Bastrop besides Lost Pines. I've always enjoyed shadowglen.

Don't forget Wolfdancer. Shadowglen is a fun track but it's nearly an hour from Colo Vista.

Lost Pines is $150?

Its probably been 15+ years since I've been out there, but I recall it being $35 and not fully worth that.

Great layout, but the condition always made it a "should be better".

I think you're thinking Pine Forest. Lost Pines is the Hyatt one.

lost pines IS Wolfdancer. They changed names.

Shadowglen is a little over 30 minutes from Bastrop. Not an hour

Didn't realize they changed to Lost Pines. At one time "Lost Pines" was the state park golf course in Bastrop. I grew up on HWY 95 between Elgin and Bastrop so I know it well.

Maps has Colo Vista to Shadow Glen at 51 minutes. Probably 1.5 in rush hour.

ColoVista sounds like a retirement community for proctologists. Of course it would be rough

We played this course around 18 months ago and it is a complete dump. There were so many craters in fairways that it looked like you were playing on the moon. Probably the worst conditioned course I have played. I won't be back.

It is such a shame because the property has serious potential to be nice.

My mistake.

The Bastrop fire several years ago did not help. Lost was multiple houses and forest on the east side of the property. As a result, lot sales were impacted during the last hot market. That would have helped HOA revenue, I'd assume.
