I was actually pretty proficient in english comp classes back in school. We'd even have diagramming parties. Not sure if people diagram sentences anymore?

CHARLOTTE, N.C. Maybe the "Billy Graham Rule" would've helped the University of Louisville basketball program avoid this mess.
At least that was Texas A&M coach Billy Kennedy's reaction to the scandal, involving allegations a staff member arranged strippers and escorts for Cardinals players and recruits, that has rocked the U of L program in recent weeks. Graham, a famous preacher, resolved never to be alone with a woman that was not his wife leaving doors open or having witnesses present if ever he met with other women.
"We've gotta do that in a different way, you know, in everything we do," Kennedy said Wednesday at the Southeastern Conference's media day, where Louisville's scandal and coach Rick Pitino's level of responsibility were hot topics. "Everything is so scrutinized now that everything you do, you have to watch yourself."

While the idea of a rogue assistant is often met with skepticism, SEC coaches don't find it far-fetched.
"Programs have gotten so big, and staffs have gotten so big that to say 'I know everything going on in my program' would be a lie," Kennedy said. "I respect Coach Pitino, and I don't believe he knew what was going on. But unfortunately it's our job and we're paid a lot of money to have responsibility of what's going on in those type situations. I would like to think I would have known."
But no matter what precautions a coach takes in vetting staff and evaluating the character of recruits "nothing is a guarantee," Kennedy said, and that can be scary for the men in charge of these programs.
quote:The statement by Pitino and the school about not attending was today, "Friday". Ben Lover must have gotten the information last night at Steak and Shake.
Old news. They'll let this Powell keep changing her story and sink herself. Pitino said last week he wasn't going.
quote:
To clarify - I think kids are getting laid on recruiting trips all over the country. Cash payments or favors - call it what you will. It's essentially prostitution.
I also think Petino is an especially bad example. Everyone does it may be true, but that just makes it look worse when you're getting hit for it.
quote:quote:Exactly, basketball coaches are CEOs of tiny companies. How many people are on his staff, maybe 7 or 8? Plausible deniability should never be an excuse with such few individuals. If anything, this should bring into question recruiting practices in general. Pitino has no excuse not to know what is happening during recruiting trips when so few recruits are involved for CBB.quote:Personally, I would very skeptical that ANY basketball coach in the country would not have been aware at some level that something like that was going on. Pitino's denials don't pass my own B.S. detector.quote:
If Rick didn't know about the strippers he certainly should have. Too many occurrences and players involved for him not to have been accountable in some way.
Would you feel the same way if this was Kennedy? What would the athletic department tell you to say?
Where was the money coming from to pay for these on-campus stripper parties and 'side activities'? Out of their recruiting budget? From a rogue booster who went ahead and funded something which could get Louisville in major trouble without even doing a 'don't worry, you'll have plausible deniability' wink-wink with Pitino to make sure it was okay?
quote:you're including yourself, right?
I think between both Ben and the other side of this, there is a whole hell of a lot of "I don't have a clue but I'm going to say a whole lot anyways."
It's the same script, every time it involves a successful, non-Aggie coach. Folks wanna take them down, or folks eat up everything those programs say.

Five ex-Louisville basketball players and recruits told Outside The Lines of parties at a dorm from 2010-14 that included strippers paid for by the team's graduate assistant coach.

I also get so tired of the people around here that take joy in witch hunts.
quote:What I or you say is certainly irrelevant Ben. I do agree with you there.
Telling you, you can keep saying it. But as this women trips herself up and changes her story, it's not the story you think it is.
quote:they have at least 5 former recruits/ex plaers who admitted to the parties with the strippers/escorts in the dorm, and they have photos (shown in that OTL article) of Powell in the dorm. They also have at least one confirmed wire transfer of $200 from McGee to Powell.
Without a money trail, which there isn't. It'll take more than words.

In a letter to students, Louisville president James Ramsey said the school is also reviewing the allegations and see the charges as "not an isolated athletic issue," but rather something that affects the entire university community.

The allegations have prompted four separate investigations, including one by the NCAA. The Louisville campus police announced Oct. 6 they are working with the Louisville Metro Police to review the allegations for possible criminal charges.
