Wow...that looks amazing. Was really into SC2000, but never got into SC3000 as much, but I gotta say, this looks awesome!

Signed up for the beta as well. Never heard a response so I emailed them and they said everyone finds out at the same time if they are in the Beta (after sign-ups close). They said they didn't send out confirmation emails that you signed up either - confusing, but I'm pretty sure one of my 3 attempts to sign-up worked.

No mac beta... but there will be a mac final version (though I think it has a later release date than the PC version)

I spent a good year playing SimCity4 and still play it on occasion.

Side note: Does anybody here remember the game SimTown? Spent a lot of time playing that as a kid on my parent's Compaq Presario. :-D

No, but I played the crap out of SimAnt and SimCopter. I also enjoyed SimTower for a little while.

The only negative Ive seen is that the max land size for a city is the size of a medium city in SC4.

JJxvi - a constant internet is required to play. A combination of DRM and multiplayer requirement. Looks like you can't just play by yourself (from what I can tell). I'd rather not have some rando destroying my city but perhaps you can't control that any more if you MUST play multiplayer.

Cliff notes:
There is single-player, BUT
Connection required
Saved games are on Maxis servers ONLY
You can play 'for a short time' if you lose connection and your game will be maintained. After that progress will be lost when your online saved game is restored.

Probably won't buy now that I know this.

I don't see a problem.

I don't see why anybody would have a problem connecting their gaming computer to the internet, whether it's for single player or multiplayer.

IIRC, in an interview with the developers, they mentioned that you can start a city/region and set it to private so other players can only join if they are invited. There won't be an issue of other people destroying your city if you don't let them.

Can't play on airplanes or in remote locations without internet connection.

This game looks really cool. I wish I had the free time to devote to it. But with a baby at home I'm afraid I wouldn't.

I'd be hard pressed trying to run a game of SC's caliber on a laptop anyway.

I've not purchased a PC Game is at more than 10 years. This may change things. Love Sim City and this game looks amazing.

I travel allot and play civ 5 on my laptop while on the plane all the time. Not being able to do the same with sim city really devalues the game for me.

Somewhat OT, but this cool interactive panorama made me think of playing Sim City and I thought you fellow nerds would appreciate it. And that this thread needed a bump.

I was just on the sim city site yesterday and getting pumped. I'm already pre-ordered.

Sounds more like a teaser weekend rather than a beta test. Of course that is what beta testing has turned into. A very small handful of folks actually test and report bugs while the vast majority decide whether they like the game and learn the ins/outs to have an advantage on launch day.

Well, I just got my beta key. I'll have to plan my day tomorrow for an hour of uninterrupted time to play this thing. Guess it's better than nothing - gift horses and all that.
