Or if LeBron would take less since he still hasn't re-signed; I just don't see DWade leaving 2/40 on the table

Cavs could only offer $3.4M. Pretty sure Wade is just trying to hold Miami hostage for as much money as he can possibly get.

I thought this article stated pretty well what may have been a driving force behind Durant's decision. He clearly was good friends with the Warriors players, greatly admired their playing style per comments, and with the spectre of Westbrook possibly leaving after next year anyways, this was his window to go to the Warriors. Sure he could have played one more season for the Thunder and then bolted if Westbrook bolted, but if he waited to next season, then the Warriors likely would not have cap space anymore due to Curry finally coming due for a monster contract plus probably having to give a max to Harrison Barnes. This was the window of opportunity due to a 'glitch in the matrix'.

quote:
Most importantly, and why I've come to enjoy the idea after initially dreading it: This will never happen again. This is not a trend, or a blueprint for the league's future. It's more like a glitch in the matrix. There will never be another woefully underpaid MVP (Curry) at the same time there's a historic spike in the salary cap, creating space for a second MVP. The same way the Celtics and Lakers could only happen in the '80swhen a combination of shortsighted management and fewer teams created loaded rosters on opposite coaststhe Warriors could only happen in the summer of 2016.

Can't blame a guy for taking all that extra money, he's made sacrifices in the past and this is probably his last shot at a big contract

After all the millions he's already made, is the extra $10M worth it to leave Miami and go play with a crappy team.

Absolutely. Denver is lovely. Closer to LA as well, and I'm sure his wife frequents it due to business

Apparently Chicago is offering a partially guaranteed 3 rd year. Denver and Miami won't go past 2

The greatest regular-season team of all time just swapped out Harrison Barnes for Kevin Freaking Durant. It's fair to say the Warriors now have two of the three best players in the NBA, which raises this question: Is it even possible to construct a team that can go toe-to-toe with the Dubs' Super Death Lineup? Our staff took a crack at it. So that this isn't complete anarchy, we placed a restriction: You have to pick your five-man rotation on a $15 budget.

I just don't see how a team without LBJ would win. I think he has to be on the team.

C Marc Gasol $3
PF Kawhi $5
SF Paul George $4
SG Khris Middleton $2
PG Avery Bradley $1

Khris and George are both very good passers, so I would have the offense run through them. Great three point shooting, great post defender/rebounder and five shut down defenders.

Could switch Bradley for Reggie Jackson if you want a better offensive player, but you lose a lot on D.

the hilarious thing is they were talking about this on ESPN radio this morning and playing back old quotes of Barkley back in the 90's where he was demanding to be traded to a team where he had a chance to win a championship, complaining that players had a right to better their own basketball situation and not be at the mercy of owners/management.

Now, twenty years later, his comments reek of jealousy.

This lineup would get roasted defensively. PnR would kill them, and I can't see them sticking with shooters.

I dont necessarily agree. although i think you are on the right path in that a true ALPHA would likely be needed. someone who can take over the game, at least offensively. Thinking on it some more, a team like:

Lebron, Nicolas Batum, Tristan Thompson, Derick Rose and Kawhi Leonard might be able to give them fits.

All of this to say, barring injury, GSW is winning it all this next year.

One problem is with that budget, you couldn't even put LeBron, Kyrie and KLove on the same team because those three combine for $14.
