Aggie beliefs be damned. Winning is all that matters to everyone.

As putrid as your comment is, sadly many do feel that way.

Texas A&M University, the education it provides, the values being an Aggie instills, and the lifetime of achievement it makes possible, don't need a football team. Comments like this make me wish we'd do away with the entire thing, if this sort of sentiment comes from it. Hope you were joking, if not - poor form.

The real world would eat you up if you go out there practicing the Aggie Code of Honor. Winning by all means is the only thing that matters in life and the Code of Honor just gets in the way.

Think of the Aggie Code of Honor as a condom and your time as a student at A&M as a hot skank you just picked up at the bar. Once you're done with her, you toss out the condom and never use it ever again.

Sumlin will never bring in a multiple offense or pro style elements lol. This guy could get beaten 59/0 week after week and you'll keep seeing this same soft offense. Sumlin is convinced it can work. Sure you can run the spread, but it had better be physical like MSU or Auburn. Problem is the coach doesn't think this.

I turn 60 years old in a few weeks, and I've attempted to live my live by principles like the Aggie Code of Honor and others. Immodestly, I will say that I've done fine out there in the world.

Can't argue with much of what he said but did he get his material from the zoo?

quote:
Did Sumlin's early success at A&M, 11-2 in 2012, come from inheriting a disciplined bunch of upperclassmen and a dazzling newcomer in Johnny Manziel from the (gruff) Mike Sherman regime? Certainly hard to argue with that right now, considering Sumlin's program has regressed in each of his three seasons. Sumlin is going to have to prove otherwise at this point.

* An extremely astute observer of A&M football told me a year ago to keep an eye on the progress or lack of of the offensive line as the players get further and further away from the Sherman/Jim Turner tutelage, two men who are passionate and technically sound regarding the line. The current (and veteran) offensive line, thought to be the team's biggest strength entering the season, is one of its biggest weaknesses. Why is that?

http://texags.com/forums/5/topics/2546083

quote:
* I'll ask it again: Will this type of finesse offense work in the SEC West without a dual-threat quarterback like Manziel? Right now the evidence is stacked against that, as league defensive coordinators appeared to have figured out and then some Sumlin's novel approach to offense (and that weak offensive line certainly doesn't help).

* There's an awful lot of ugliness out there from mad Aggies for one of its most embarrassing stretches in program history, and I can't say that I blame them. Ticket prices are sky high, the coach worked the school over for a $2 million raise during a fourth place finish in the SEC West last year (true loyalty is a long-lost word), and fans were asked to step up to pay for a $450 million ongoing renovation to Kyle Field with the idea they're helping fund a quality product that's all contributed to eliciting this response.

He's right though.

You're probably one of those "Participation Trophies" sort of liberal if you are OK with a small margin of defeat. Mike Leach said it best; "F#CK playing them close, we lost our ass to the *********University of Texas".

If that's the case, well then I'm a pretty stand up individual because I've attempted to live my life by the code of honor....it just happens that I don't most of the time, but its OK because I try.

Just had a guy fired from our firm two weeks ago for lying about job write up he never did. I know you're on an emotional rant right now but it still has it's place in this world and people notice... trust me.

Look, you're right about people thinking we should go back to recruiting 2 star guys who sell girl scout cookies, blaming our failures on the intro, barber shop, etc... But Sumlin has to make changes going forward, in particular, discipline within the culture of the team. One of the main reasons we are in the this mess is because we had two thugs that thought they could get away with armed robbery. Not sure what the answer is, team guidance counselors, accountability partners, Jesus, heck I don't know, but 20 arrest and a 0-59 loss will get just about any coach on the hot seat.

In looking at Sumlin's brief history as a head coach, he is in uncharted territory. He has not faced the level of competition and talent he now faces. He had a once in a generation talent in Johnny. I firmly believed he was very responsible for developing Johnny. The choice on the qb to start the season put him in a no win situation. If memory serves me correctly he left the door wide open for a switch once it was announced. Kenny and the rest of the team performing as they did against SC in the first game made it very hard to justify a qb switch because of decline. Very few would have stood for a change because Kenny was a "Heisman contender". I think that he, along with the rest of the offensive staff tried to coach his qb up and correct some of the issues emerging. Saturday everything came crashing down. I agree that it is not all on the QB, that it goes to the other 10 guys on the field with him. The biggest concern I saw the last 4 games us that the interior line has been extremely bad. Way too many high snaps. Harrison and Matthews have been beat repeatedly. Kenny also holds on to the ball way to long, which in turn effects his accuracy. Johnny made very quick decisions. Johnny also made the offensive line look very very good because of the way he moved, and the fact that he went thru his progressions very quickly. You do not see very many college qb's able to do what Johnny did.

I hope that this is the wake up call for the head coach and the staff to make the changes that need to be made.

Perhaps Sumlin is not what we thought.

Before the season, most people, including BZ, picked us to go 7-5 or 8-4. Well guess what, we'll probably go 7-5. Sure, it sucks to get hammered by top 5 teams, but that's what happens to teams that lose players like Manziel, Evans, Joeckel, etc. Wait until you see Miss State play next year.

Now, that's not to say there aren't things to criticize. I've been disturbed by some of the arrests and attrition too. But some of our best recruits from 11-12-13 have been injured, and that's hard to control.

It seems to me that one thing we can control is who coaches our defense. It is high time for some changes there. The scheme is just terrible. Some of the conversions to A. Cooper on third down early in the game were so easy it made me want to throw up.

OL regressing is also a major issue, and seems to raise some coaching concerns.

But let's not get too carried away. Under Fran we had issues like this, but we also couldn't recruit then, which left basically no hope at all. Sumlin has clearly elevated the talent of the program, and continues to do so. The team quite simply is not nearly as bad as it has played the last few weeks.

A loss is a loss, but when you're evaluating a coach's performance there is a pretty effing huge difference between losing by 1 and losing by 59... especially when 59 could have been 100. Just like there is a big difference between losing 35-20 when the other team scored late to make it a two-score game, and losing 35-20 when you had to score two touchdowns against the jv team in the last two minutes to get within two scores.

I wouldn't be upset with losing competitive games to three of the four best teams in the country, but we just took the second worst beating in A&M football history. Florida Atlantic played Bama closer. So did Southern Mississippi. Memphis put up a better fight against Ole Miss. UAB was more competitive against Mississippi State. I'm cherry picking the data, but that's still 5 examples out of about 20 games played by those three teams.

Oh, so its OK to lose then? Well ****, why the hell are we melting for??? Participation medals for everyone. Someone tell Sumlin to forget about winning. Just play them close. Also, let's go ahead and put up a 2014 SEC Participation sign outside of Kyle right next to 1939 since its apparently OK to lose.

People would have laughed hysterically if that was mentioned as a possibility in August.

Texas A&M hasn't won every game in a season in 75 years you dunce it's not going to change any time soon.

Of course it's OK for us to lose a game we've been doing it regularly for over 100 years

I just feel old. After watching Aggie Football since the mid-1950s, and becoming an Aggie on campus in 1965, I cannot express the level of disappointment that I felt in this game. For the last two and a half years we were all giddy with what we thought we perceived as our progress. Now the hollow core of reality has show the deficits hiding behind our progress to date.

Maybe the HC will take charge and turn things around and correct the problems. But will we see an Auburn type turn around next year. Maybe yes, Maybe no.

But for right now, this Aggie feels old. For the first time.

Pretty pathetic if you ask me. Well, you now have a team with little to no integrity and a loser. Football is still a team sport that generally requires character to win big. There are some exceptions, but recruiting kids to a big time college life and letting them slide on breaking rules, etc with little to no consequences are coming home to roost.

We all fell for the #WRTS and the AgCopter and the AgSwag and sold our soul in the process because we were finally a hot program after decades of being in the shadow of "you-know-who".

Well, we now have a program we are not proud of, getting humiliated weekly, etc. Worth it?
