Here's the problem with LHN.

tu says that it isn't part of the university therfore anything they do isn't bound by NCAA recruiting rules as part of the institution or booster.

It however seems to have a lot of access to LHN as seen by sending their recruits through the LHN studio.

haha, if that's legal, it's definitely pushing the borders of legality and part of the reason we are getting away from it.

So it's an NCAA violation to show a visiting recruit on your own Jumbotron at a game, but you can broadcast him on your network?

the LHN will continue to push the envelope of NCAA violations until they get a slap on the wrist...this is just another small step in a long road

So ND recruits can go to 30 Rock and hang around with ND gear on an ND set? If i cant buy a recruit a cup of coffee or a guided tour, this aint right.

It's only allowed until it isn't. This is tu pushing the envelope as usual, and the NCAA should open an investigation and make a decision as to whether it should be allowed.

But the NCAA doesn't have authority over ESPN. They have no subpoena power to demand the raw footage from them. As I understand it, the only way the NCAA can get to the LHN, under current rules, is if they designate it as booster related.

It will take some investagative reporter to document all the violations before the NCAA will move.

Anyone trying to say it was jealousy is retarded it was because LHN was designed for one reason and one reason only: to skirt the NCAA recruiting rules. Combine that with a conference admin that bases it's existence on "we have to let tu have/get away with whatever they want" it wasn't hard to F you B12.

Eventually t.u. and the LHN will probably have a signing day show with the recruits just like the NFL & ESPN have with the NFL draft

all i want to know is where are all of the sips on this one??? They tend to jump all over other threads...but they're sure silent on this one.

OK Frisco, I'll take this one. There are 2 possibilities here:

1) This picture was in fact broadcast on LHN - that could easily a violation of NCAA rules, or at least on that gray area between legal and illegal.

2) A bunch of Horn recruits who were in town for the annual football banquet were given an opportunity to visit the LHN studio (whether that in itself is an NCAA violation, I have no idea). And someone took a picture (this looks like a picture taken with a cell phone) and tweeted/posted it.

If its 1 then yes the NCAA rules have at least been very seriously bent, if not broken. On the other hand, if its 2, then I don't know what rules, if any, have been broken.

I say we stop worrying about it, it really doesnt affect us anymore. They can only sign 25 or so kids a year, if we can't get the kids we need to be successul because of tu's recruiting advantage we have bigger problems we should be concerned with!

Having our own network wouldn't give us the ability to bend the rules like LHN. LHN works because TECHNICALLY it's is owned by ESPN, not tu and ESPN is not (yet) considered a booster organization.

Honestly, I'm not sure which is more disgusting/illegal: tu arranging this little visit, or ESPN. SOMEONE had to do it, a bunch of kids can't just wander onto a set like this. This had to be set up in advance by someone else.

Why can't recruits visit any place in Austin that they choose? How is this different from going to dinner or a movie, or any other place they might go while they visit?

If this was broadcast on air, definitely a no-no.

If this was just a tour of the studios, this is not a violation. I would guess that if I was applying to the journalism school, I would get a tour of those same facilities.

Why shouldn't the sips be allowed to showcase the LHN? They took the initiative to get it done. Everyone had/has the option to try and do something similar, but few have the branding power of tu.

I'm hooping do something similar.

You can't say "we don't control this or have anything to do with it" on one hand and on the other bring in recruits to use it to sell your program.

Unfortunately, ESPN, the NCAA and the Big 12 all WANT tu to be able to get away with as much as possible.

Except that those players in that studio will get to be seen by about 5 households on that joke network.

You guys realize that we will be on tv every game in the SEC!?!?!?

We will have 1 game that our AD can choose PPV or not to air it, otherwise, no little 12 school will come close to the media exposure that the SEC will give us!

its not like they drove them to bristol or anything. the studio is on campus.

You know what that crap reminds me of? My grandmother. Please bear with me on this.

When I was a kid, we would have family reunions at their lakehouse, and my grandmother would go around with a 16mm up to her face like she was filming everything. And of course, everyone would ham it up for the camera. But she seldom had film in it. Her private joke.

(Yeah, my grandmother was a whack job, count yourself lucky you weren't her most unfavorite grandchild.)

Turn the camera's red light on, tell them they are on camera, but the footage can only be aired after they sign. Only, they aren't really filming.
