This thread has really gone off the rails.

I always liked the muffaletta at Abe's in Clear Lake.

Wow. You went back 3 years. Incredible.

I'll have to admit that V&A breaks my Landry rule. Since 2012 I've gone several times to vick's and they do good work there.

3 years ago I'm not sure why I said 3 forks. I hadn't been there and still haven't.
accountability, Texags now has it

You mean this thread wasn't over when the foodie who thinks there is something magical about where something was first created was outed as previously recommending III Forks?

Were you just a foodie infant in the spring when you let everyone know about the "hidden gem" of buying the El Tiempo fajita meat at the meat market next door?

I'm merely pointing out that the city from which the sammich originated might possibly have several variations that at least equal or surpass the quality from that which you will find in Galveston texas.

While it might be possible, it isn't.

Ok. But 9 out of 10 times. If a local place is recommended vs a chain establishment. Which are you picking?

About half the time, 9 out of 10 times, it's a 50/50 split.

I got into a shouting match with Giada at her restaurant in The Cromwell over her horribly ****ty Muffuletta. By far the WORST Muffuletta I've ever eaten. Needless to say, I'm no longer allowed to dine there....

Giada inspires me to make a handmade white sauce.

Who are these people recommending chain restaurants?

"Oh man, have you been to Jason's Deli?? No? No?! Their salad bar is to die for. They've got like these mini muffins and Ice Cream!"

Yeah dummy, we've all been to Jason's deli.

I take that back, I know who is recommending chain restaurants. The B/CS board.

Which, we go to chain restaurants because we know what to expect. Sometimes, you don't feel like taking your chance on "Jack's Hole In the Wall" and just want a safe, decent meal.

Amen. Is there anything worse than grinding up a bunch of olives and spreading them on a sammich? Poop? No that's probably better.

I have to see this sammich for myself.

I just read an old review saying they buy their muffaletta rolls at Randall's.

Hopefully this has changed.

Is this in regards to Sonny's? If so, and if the Galveston Randall's has a bakery, it's possible. Junior had two different places on the Island he would get the buns. Basically whichever bakery could accommodate him for his order each day since he bought them fresh daily, or at least claimed to. Though I'm pretty sure if Randall's was one of his suppliers, they specifically made the buns for Sonny's. I've searched for the buns before and they definitely don't just have Muffuletta buns sitting around for sale. At least none that I've found. Regardless who makes them, the bread is good. They also use it for their garlic bread, which is ****ing outstanding!

Why is this a problem in any capacity?

Are the buns only good if they come from a local bakery that uses the word "artisan" in their advertising or something?

This is a perfect example of group think at its best - you have made a determination that because X company bakes the buns, they must automatically now be bad. There is no actual basis for this determination, other than X company is not some local and semi-obscure shop that runs out of some back alley that only local businesses have the secret password to buy from.

If the end product meets the specifications set by Sonny's, and they aren't receiving backlash from their customers that their muffaletta buns are craptastic, then why does it matter if they are baked at Randall's, Kroger, HEB, some local place or in a toaster oven in the back room of Sonny's?

The problem would be the Randall's is generally known for having ****ty baked goods. After Safeway bought them it only got worse.

Maybe the one is Galveston is different.

its almost like you only go to chain restaurants/major grocers etc... why are you their great defender?

why so much hate for people who choose to support local businesses and entrepreneurs vs major corporations. since i would venture to say the masses frequent major chains of everything vs local grocers/restaurants, its almost like you are the definition of group think as you defend them so ardently.

Further...Im going to go out on a limb and say that typically the smaller "artisan" bakery tastes better than the mass produced box store baked items...much like homemade breads etc, when done right, taste better than grocery store baked goods.
