Petey - I resemble that remark.

SA - I agree he looks like a good candidate. I read about him in the HC this morning and like his experience and ties to Texas high school coaches. My advice to him before he goes to Austin is a paraphrase of the old one about politicians going to Washington: If you want a real friend, get a dog.

Coach Pierce is a guy who drills fundamentals hard because he never really had top shelf talent. His players have to field well, have disciplined at bats, run the bases hard, yet smart. and hustle - HARD - every single play.

At places like Sam and Tulane, you only win if you play error free ball, give no extra outs and make the most of every opportunity at bat and on the bases. If he can instill that style of play at Texas, he'll do well.

He may have a lot of cleaning up to do with players who might not be a good fit for the type of ball he is going to play.

What difference does it make? Texas aims high and makes the best coaches say no. They say no after their current colleges give them huge raises to keep them from considering Texas.
