How can playing pretend for TV or movies change the world?

If you haven't watched the alt-x guys run down of the first season, I really recommend it. He does some of the best game of thrones recaps and and this one is as good as those.

Seriously. I can't remember a TV show that went from completely-out-of-no-where to blockbuster-movie-level-anticipation for the second season like this. That spot was more exciting than any movie spot so far this year.

Looks like they are going full Lovecraft for the second season. I like it, cosmic horror has rarely been done well but it is incredible when it is done properly. I hope they do manage to capture the vast overwhelming power of the otherworldly beings and actually show how insignificant humanity really is.
Given the fact that we have already seen a character actually go insane on the show from knowledge that they shouldn't know, I wonder if they will explore this theme and go into one of the more horrifying aspects of Lovecraft where just knowing about the cosmic horrors can cause you to physically lose your mind.

I hope that if there is a season 3 that they go ahead and film it soon. I like the age they are at and don't want them to be too old for later seasons if it happens. Can't wait for season 2.
The original intention was to set season two ten years later (in the '90s), with many of the same characters, just different actors. But the success of the first season caused them to stick with the same cast and just continue the story from where season one left off. That said, I could see them revisiting the 10-years-later idea at some point, as it sounds like they had it fairly planned out.
The 90s would be awesome.
