Saw where Melton is batting .100 for the month of May. Seems like Maroney, Homan and Banks are batting better.
quote:His slugging percentage is .347 and that is not cutting in. Obviously he plays good defense, steals bases and all of that good stuff. A month ago he was hitting well and getting on base and was making a real positive contribution. His slump has been pretty bad and it feels like he is just about an automatic out these days.
What have you seen in Davis and Pennington's previous shots at breaking into the lineup that makes you believe they will produce with more consistency than Choruby? Is it the potential pop in their bats?
quote:I think it would be a step back but not a huge step back. Moss in center with Banks in right and one of the other guys in left is still a solid defensive outfield. Worth having another bat in the line up in my opinion.
How much does defense suffer if Choruby were replaced? He came on initially because of defense but has had good streaks offensively earlier this season. But his bat has since cooled. So do we take a big step back defensively if we take the chance to put in another bat that can get hot? We have others (Moss, I'm thinking) who can handle CF.

I wouldn't mind seeing Banks moved back up
quote:Are we assuming the pitcher doesn't have any breaking pitches if you see no difference with Gideon?
Pennington, Davis and Gideon all have a slugging percentage that is 150 to 200 points higher. Honestly, I don't think there is a whole lot of different between those three and Moroney.
quote:Agreed on all points. Glad to see Davis with a shot -- he really produced for about a month there and may find his stride.
Good call on your part. Still somewhat surprised. Lots of potential pop in the bottom of the line-up.
