Sounds like chaos and awesomeness.

Some groups still have 5 holes to play, so it could be another hour before the playoff.

Not clear on sudden death format. Do 5 golfers from each team start at the same time on 5 consecutive holes---they all play one hole and compare total strokes to par and take best 4 of each team? Anyone have clarification? thanks,

Sudden Death Playoff Procedures Teams will draw for positions. For a two-team playoff, the winner of the draw shall have the option of the A or B positions set forth below. For a playoff involving more than two teams, the teams shall assume the drawn letter position (A, B, C, etc.) set forth below. Two teams (A & B; tee off alternately) #5A, #5B, #4A, #4B, #3A playoff hole #1
#3B, #2A, #2B, #1A, #1B playoff hole #1

Looks like all 5 players from each team will play the same hole, and the best 4 scores are added together and if a team has a lower score they advance.

+1 what mullokmotx said. That's exactly how it works, good research. If best 4 scores on the first hole for the two teams end up being a tie, the 5 players from each team go to the next designated playoff hole and play in exactly the same manner as outlined by mullokmotx.

The games committee determines before the tournament begins which holes are designated as playoff holes and the order that the holes are played, and it's all spelled out in the Notice to Competitors (also called the local rules sheet). Games committee members are usually a couple of coaches from participating teams and the head rules official.

Hopefully they start on one, our guys played that hole really well

Very tough course and very tough conditions.

only 20% of the field today shot 80 or higher, with the majority of those from the bottom 3-4 teams in the field.

Conditions aside - this was a bad day relative to the rest of the field.

I agree with that statement completely. We had the highest score of the T5. I disagree that having to take an 80 was "disgusting".

And double-f-ing-eagle?! Are you kidding me?!

tough to lose to an eagle and double eagle.

Day #1 seems to be always be their issue. They are always playing catch up and holding on. The course played the easiest on Monday and they finished 8th.

Our 4 scorers were 7 over on the back 9; their 4 were even. Tough way to go out. Our spring sports so far have been jinxed in the NCAA tournament. Women's golf collapsed on their home course in round 2, women's tennis lost in the 3rd set of the last match, men's tennis ditto except in a tie breaker, and now men's golf in a playoff where the other team gets a double eagle and an eagle on the playoff hole.

Dean Knuth, who invented the slope rating system for courses and handicaps, has been quoted as saying the odds of a double eagle for average golfers are about 1,000,000 to 1.

What an unreal way to lose in sudden death. Reminds me of a tour event in Vegas back in 2010 when Jonathan Byrd made a walk-off ace in a playoff to win.
