How did that happen? Two main reasons:
1) Certain recruiting sites have a direct monetary interest in your team and they willfully *inflate* your recruiting rankings. A three star all of a sudden becomes a four star. No game was played, no skills test completed, just MAGIC that they gain in rankings when they show interest to the Horns. There are a lot of 2 stars in that Offensive and Defensive huddle.
2) Your coaches are lousy. Two yards? BYU, that team of missionaries riding bicycles, RUNS over, around, and through your defense two years in a row? They curb stomp you in your own house in a game Charlie put up in the locker room as a "Revenge game to put the "T" back in Texas. He put 7 "L"s back in losses. Even at that - the few good players that were on defense are all gone now.
So, when it comes to that dumpster fire in Austin: all blow and no go (well, maybe go 2 yards). Reality is you don't have an OL, you don't have any RBs, and you damn sure don't have a QB. 5-7 no bowl is in your future this year with Charlie kicking off more players to compensate.
You know what I was told earlier in the week? That Charlie told Boyd and Hill that they were "the bookends" of his defense. That they were going to start together and make it happen. We all know that's not true. They will compete *against* each other for a spot on a defense that is getting mangled by a Baylor, OU, and TCU and torched by their passing attacks. They won't last more than a year or two under the poor coaching and lack of supporting cast on both sides of the ball. Hey, Charlie lies. Texas High School coaches don't know him yet. But, mark my words - he is gaining a reputation and it isn't a good one.
Now, as to Texas A&M - the pieces to the puzzle we needed are signing on NSD. True talent that will be mentored by two of the best offensive and defensive minds in football. This will be the best NSD in Aggie history. Five more to go, and quite frankly, they are men among boys. They complete us.
See you on NSD. I'll be the red headed gentleman with the big grin on his face.

Your "we ducked Texas" argument had a lot more weight before the bowl game. After Texas was abjectly humiliated (very nearly in record setting fashion) by a team we beat... Well it just sounds kind of stupid.
Why would we need the SECs help to avoid a guaranteed win? We actually wanted a challenge and faced a team with a better record and beat them.

Refs cheat. Texas cheats .Everyone is against us .They are not coming to my university so they suck.
Texas had three major gaps going into the stretch run of recruiting for the 2015 class: QB, OL, and DL.
The Texas class, while solid in numbers and depth at key positions (namely LB and CB) are SEVERELY lacking in the three most dire categories listed above. Texas could potentially whiff on even getting a QB to campus, which is mind boggling to think about, given how obviously terrible that situation has been since Strong arrived on campus. The Amazing Wickline didn't pull in a ton of talent outside of Vahe - not looking that promising for a line that was only able to muster a whopping 2 rushing yards with two 5-star running backs and three weeks of preparation to boot.
Strong's class looks a lot like Fran's classes used to look. Decent star power, but lots of grade risks and barely an effort to address the glaring issues with the previous year's team.
Texas cannot compete for the Big 12 if they don't have an offense that can score points - no matter how good their defense claims to be. Look no further than TCU for an example. Patterson finally wised up and instituted an offense that can help him compete. Texas is far from that mix and will continue to struggle until they find an identify on offense and recruit accordingly.

where is the proof that A&M "dodged" tu in the Texas Bowl? The SEC matched up the records of the 4 teams in play and called it a day.. nothing to see here.
