If we had someone helping us be a little more patient with head coaches building a solid program , Sherm would still be our head coach.

Wrong. Von Miller quoted as to how Sherm developed him.

Fwiw von was speaking more about what Sherman did for him as man (tough love/suspension) than what Sherman did to develop his football talent.

I think even the biggest Sherman supporter would agree that Sherman knows next to nothing about coaching defensive lineman.

I liked Sherm, but second halves were not his strong suit.

Apparently some of you guys weren't around/conscious in 2010-11. Yes he had a keen eye for OL talent and development but couldn't game plan to finish off a Pop Warner team. The zoo meltdowns after Sherm games were epic

To me, Sherm just didn't seem like a master motivator. I remember when he screamed out "Wrecking Crew" in the locker room after, I believe, the 2010 Nebraska game. That, and I remember the stupid "Are you ready? Are you ready?" crap.

So why don't we learn from our mistakes and let Sumlin do this as well?

Sherman's 2011 season was agonizing. I never felt like we would ever keep a lead. 2010 probably would not have closed well if he had not benched Johnson and let Tannehill take over, as that 3 game streak of losses was just ugly. That's no knock against Johnson who was obviously having some injury problem.

Sherman did bring in some great talent. But I don't think we would be anywhere close to the same W/L record we have over the last 4 years if he was still the head coach here. It's all hypothetical but the way those two seasons went, I'm not sure we even go .333 against the SEC much less .500.

"Miller told the Dallas Morning News, the confrontation (with Mike Sherman) was "probably the best thing that ever happened" to him."

That seems like a lot more than ZERO!

LoL at those of you who give sherm any credit for Johnny.

1. Rossley had to convince sherm to offer
2. Sherm would have started showers, who wouldn't improvise on the fly.
3. Johnny would have been suspended for the fake id thing.
4. Johnny probably transfers.

Uh, what do you think "development" means??

Those second halves man.... He abandoned really solid running games all the time in the second, often before the other team even proved they could stop it maybe because he looked at his notes and saw that we were running more than passing and thus we needed more balance. For an OC, he had a very poor feel for the flow of a game. Excited for Turner coming back.

I get cracked up when people fixate on Sherman's W/L record by itself. He inherited an absolute dumpster fire. Spending first couple seasons trying to get the ship turned around skews everything.

If Sherman had swallowed his pride and hired Chad Morris as OC, he'd still be here.

Sherman didn't win a bowl game, he was already fired. Deruyter coached the bowl game win against northwestern.

Sherman was a good game planner, but he never figured out that in college, if you're bigger and stronger and faster than the other team they probably won't be able to do anything about it when you run the ball down their throats 50 times. We lost a lot of games because he made half time adjustments as though the other team had figured out how to stop Joeckel, Matthews, Lewis, Harrison, Cyrus Gray, Christine Michael, and all those big receivers blocking on the edge.

football is a bottomline business...it's all starts and ends with the W/L record.

the dumpster fire that Fran left him was not too bad:

Von, Tannehill, JJ, McGee, J-Train, Goodson, et al.

more than enough talent to beat Arkansas State
