When you have a good coach, it never ends. With every coaching vacancy the cycle repeats. I know it's been a while for us. HTH

To be honest, A&M is not even a top 5 job in the SEC.

I'd put A&M at #4 or #5

Why do these dumb twitter analysts think location is the #1 most important factor?

Of course LA is nicer than CS, but if that were the deciding factor, USC could get anyone they wanted in the SEC.

Sumlin is building an excellent program at A&M, he's got an excellent paycheck, in prime recruiting territory, just hired John Chavis, and plays in the SEC West.

Gah, USC just please hire someone so these internet doofuses shut up.

I'd put A&M at #4 or #5

I'd go:

Florida, Bama, Georgia, Auburn, A&M/Tennessee

you could probably interchange auburn and Georgia if you're going to be picky

In no particular order I'd put these ahead of A&M

Bama
LSU
UT
Florida

I have A&M on the same level as GA and Auburn

Move A&M to 4th, Take auburn out and put LSU in. They lock down their in-state recruiting.

Well, everybody doesn't define "nicer" the same way.

'Blowin' down the freeway' (or sitting on the freeway, either) are items with a limited shelf life, to a lot of people.

Just curious.. what makes a coaching job top 5?

Facilities? Access to top flight recruits? Pay? School/fan support?

"Nicer" is highly subjective.

Living in LA and having a campus that is absolutely surrounded by ghetto is not necessarily "nicer".

What makes Auburn a better draw than A&M? If anything, having to compete with the 800 lb gorilla in the same state makes it a less desirable job than having the state to yourself lime you see with TN, LSU and A&M. I am not even sure I would say that Florida is a better draw to be honest.

That's exactly why I don't have Aburn above A&M

You need to LSU to that list of top jobs in the SEC. LSU has the athletes, the fan base, the recent tradition of competing at the highest level. The facilities and money are good enough, when you factor in the recruiting / athletes. I know everyone Miles is a dumba$$, but that is his style. We may can bump down Auburn a spot below ATM, but you would have to add LSU.

Then why do all the top programs on the all time, wins list always hire who they want?

Throw in High Taxes, High Cost of Living, Leftist Govt, Horrible Traffic, Earthquakes . . . . . . I can't think of anything that makes USC a Top 5 Job. Maybe 30 years ago, not now.

Other than history (the most overrated factor there is) A&M is at the very top in all of those categories. So explain to me how it's not a top 5 job?

And Tennessee and Georgia are no longer better jobs than A&M. If Tennessee were a top 5 job, their last 3 coaches wouldn't be Kiffin, Butch Jones and Derek Dooley.

Did you really bring up " leftist Govt"?? Wow!! Lots of these coaches are in that camp

Do you remember the last few times USC played for National Titles? Heisman trophies?

If they hire who they want why did the sips have to settle on Strong? Why did Notre Dame get passed over? Why did Fran leave Bama for A&M? Coaches are people just like us. Just like some petroleum engineers want to work for a major, some are happy at a small independent. The talk of what constitutes an elite job can and will change depending on the individual in question.
