The common thread is a lack of improvement. Some have assumed improvement just naturally happens over time, but evidently it takes coaching. Sounds to me like this is the biggest single issue we have. Make the right hire, solve it, and a natty can be ours. Don't, and we will NEVER get there.

If they're not coached up and work hard to get bigger and stronger that could be an epic list of wasted potential.

This is where the jury is still out about Sumlin. Is he going to be Mack Brown or RC Slocum when it comes to developing players?

procrastinating, your point is well made, but I do have two quibbles. One is that Hall was a) passed up by Myles freaking Garrett, which isn't a knock on anyone, b) has bulked up a lot, and c) was not supposed to be an SEC-strength DE until his third season. It's a little early to blast him. Second is that Obioha is pretty good at SDE. It's not as flashy a position as WDE, but he is doing a good job out there.

However, I would add Floyd Raven, Donnie Baggs, and Tommy Sanders as seniors once hailed as future saviors of the defense who have not even locked down starting positions on a bad defense.

Procrastinating just nailed why anyone who says "in two years" is and will always be full of crap. It's impossible to see in the future like that, who saw Johnny Football being a super star?

People surprise you in a positive way, and certainly fail to meet expectations.

Guys talking about the future are just wishing, and you know the old saying "wish in one hand and crap in the other, see what fills up first".
