I really wasn't sure if it was going to work when I started. On the driver side panel I started with 80 grit and then 220 grit...just the driver side alone was 3 hours of sanding and even then it wasn't exactly where I would normally like it but when I redo them I'll use a sander and finish with a finer grit sandpaper. It won't take near as long now that all the rot is gone

So I found two awesome deals, a lift kit with all the components I want. 3" spindles, 1.5-2" Moog springs, and adjustable lift shackles. I'd just need new ball joints. Spindles are worth ~$330, coils $50, shackles $95.

Or Holley 390 and an Edelbrock 2 piece intake which is exactly the setup I want. I'd need the gaskets and a new TV cable. Carb is ~$350 new and the intake $300.

Both are $350 plus shipping

In reality I actually do use Dave Ramsey's free budgeting tools and track all my expenses. I pay my credit card off at the end of each month, just to build my credit. I'm completely debt free!

I've saved up a lot more money than I would have by just throwing caution to the wind.

Who said I was going to keep it gutless? With 31's I'll just grab a rear end out of 1st gen with 4.10 gears which would be similar to me going from the current 3.08s to 3.42 gears with 26" tars. Throw the intake manifold/carb at the 2.8 to pick up some power and gas mileage which can easily be swapped over a 3.4 later on down the road.

I have another truck to build to go fast, this one won't be fast but it'll be a decent amount quicker than stock.

I approve of this thread.

Reminds me of my first vehicle - a 1978 Chevy Luv. I got it with 200k on the clock from my grandfather and drove it through high school. I thought about putting a new motor in it, fixing it up and bringing it to A&M, but me and my dad decided it wasnt worth it and passed it down to my brother.

Wish we would have fixed it. There's something awesome about taking a vehicle that's not really cool, or fast, and making it better just because you want to.

Mafacka was bogging under load like crazy leaving school last night, by the time I got home it wasn't bad.

This morning it fired up and drove normal. DA FUQ U

I'm about to change the fuel filter, it was bogging like it wasn't getting enough fuel although it has ran rich the entire time I've had it.

Ditch that Rochester carb ASAP. Get your Edelbrock/Holley/whatever intake before buying a lift, and move it to the 3.4 later. A weak 2.8 that runs well is way better that one that bogs down and can't turn your bigger tires.

Or get a junkyard 2.8 TBI setup on the cheap. At least it will run reliably.

I might buy both the lift and carb/intake because I can get them both cheap now but hold off on the lift till I can get the tires...I have 275/60/15s I can throw on in the meantime if they clear lol

I'd do EFI if I planned on it being my DD for much longer
