That doesn't make sense to me. Really all you are saying is that their bodies are the only thing that is affected and nothing else in the time-space continuum is. The only result is that time would have passed on the outside and their family and friends would have wonder where the hell they are every time they were missing for 8 hours.
It also doesn't account for there being two of each of them. If they weren't going back in time or forward in time, as you say, there would never have been two of them occupying the same time.
It was weird for me because apparently the blond-headed guy is from my hometown and used to date my girlfriend's best friend. They are all friends. Small world.
