You're correct. I'm confusing it with the Power Windows tour I also went to.

You should have seen the stoned/drunk older folks in the crowd around me!

I watch 3 generations of fans pass a joint around grandpa lit it, passed it off to dad who shrugged his shoulders and passed it off to his kid .

A lot of my hatred of DMB comes from how bad their set was. You could feel the butt hurt that they were the second warm up band.

We had Steve Morse open on Power Windows. Saw them in Houston and Austin. Great shows.

Saw Manson open for NIN in 94. They were unknown at the time and blew up right after that tour.

Skid Row opening for Bon Jovi in 1988 or 89.

May not sound great now, but it was pretty cool to my 12 year old self.

I saw system of a down open for type o negative in late 90s at numbers. Then all of maybe 7 years later, I saw system of a down headlining a sold out woodlands pavilion.

I saw muse on uh campus in 2005. Very little US exposure at that time. Someone mentioned they saw them with u2; muse was already huge by that time. They were just opening for u2 because they like u2. They could have probably packed that stadium alone.

I saw nickleback play a 20 minute slot at about 2pm at a festival in 1999-2000ish. Didn't take them long to be headliners.

Saw in flames open for shadows fall. In flames is way more well known now.

In addition to the other solid openers for NIN, A Perfect Circle opened for them in 2000. Great show, last time I was in that building.

Now Joel Osteen has services there.

Early 70s saw Three Dog Night at the Salt Palace in Salt Lake City. Opening act was the Doobie Brothers. A band nobody had heard of. Couple of weeks later Listen To The Music was all over the radio.

Funny, i checked this thread because my wife and were talking this week about that band with an M name that opened for U2 a few years back. Neither of us could recall it, although it was pretty populat then. I thought the answer might be here.

Thanks TexAgs!

Boy, 1997 Incubus was a really good band.

Hell, 1997 311 was a really good band too. I would have loved that show.

Back in the 90's, took my daughter to see Red Hot Chili Peppers with Foo Fighters as the opening act. I believe it was the Foo's first tour. Great show by both bands.

Yeah, it was the summer S.C.I.E.N.C.E. came out. In a time before Napster, I was at the record store every weekend trying to find that album.

I saw incubus shortly thereafter, on ozzfest 2000. Make yourself setlist, which is still my favorite album from them. Also got to see Pantera again, who shared a stage for the last time just a year later.

My first concert ever, Foghat opened for Triumph at the old Sam Houston Coliseum. I was 14 (I think) and we were like row 10. Funny stories starring a couple naive kids (me and a buddy) from Bryan: it was the Foghat bassist's birthday and someone gave him a couple strippers who got up on the side speakers and "entertained" - we couldn't believe it. Also: throughout the opening set, the guy next to me sat and rolled a handful of joints. When Triumph started he passed them up and down the row - I didn't take a puff but was completely contact stoned by the end. My Dad (chauffeur) told me years later he spent the entire drive back to Bryan jacking with us. Third: just at reset between acts, this chick comes down the aisle wearing a loose-fitting but totally see-through, leopard print one-piece thing. Buck naked underneath. To this day, I have not seen anything sexier. Wow.

This is what I was trying to remember. I was in 7th grade and buddy went to this concert.

I think a few years earlier a cousin went to see Van Halen and Madonna opened for them. She got booed off the stage.

In the late '60s, a Beach Boys' concert opened in Houston with The Jimi Hendrix Experience, whose strong in performance sexuality suddenly catapulted a large number of that unsuspecting, but expectantly awaiting, "Fun, Fun, Fun" crowd into instant puberty.

Smelled like pre-teen spirit.

I saw it happen.

"Foxy Lady," indeed.

In the '70s, The Rolling Stones featured Stevie Wonder in Fort Worth.

He got 45 minutes.

Lots of great hits in those catalogs.

And I heard "Sir Duke" for the first time.

In Austin, I saw Simon and Garfunkle perform as harmonious "Bookends" both before and after The Everly Brothers got their due.

Cool.
Gig 'em, FAST FRED, '65.
