Here are a few featuring lead females, that are VERY catchy, but I don't even bother telling friends about now if they've never heard of them. Put your hands up (keyboard tapping) if you've seen and/or heard of them.

Never heard of either of these. I like the punkish vibe in "Jetsetter."

Cassandra Ford of The Vincent Black Shadow sounds a lot like Gwen Stefani.

I really enjoyed the one below posted by Corporal Punishment. But, I can't get past the opening minute--especially the head bobbing in the beginning when the lead singer walks out the door--without wondering if it's meant to be a goofy joke or not.

I can still listen to The Donnas.

Some of the others y'all posted are just bad

I somehow just found jellyfish like a month ago. Don't know how these guys eluded me all these years. My keyboard player knows a few of the guys and used to go see them in clubs all the time

Pop Poppins

They were a Denton based band that had a few hits on the Edge around '93 or '94. Clean tone, lots of reverb and chorus, quirky lyrics. The sound was so odd and unique that it took a while to realize they were incredible musicians.

Zebra: loved those guys. Still do. Just saw them a couple months ago in Houston. Still sounded same. And that's good.

Honeymoon Suite: drove from A&M to see them at Cardi's on Westheimer. They actually played New Girl Now TWICE. To this day, that's the only time I've witnessed that feat.

Bet no one remembers Spys. (Original Foreigner guys from their first album.) Incredibly bad video for She Can't Wait.

Prefab Sprout
The Alarm
Michael Penn

(I'll come up with more by just looking at iPod with artists with only 1 song.)

Joe "King" Carrasco y Los Coronas

They played some MSC Town Hall events at Deware Fieldhouse

And I saw them play in Oyster Creek, TX once as well.

My brother was in a band for awhile that covered a Joe King song called "Imitation Class". Pretty good tune.

I listened to Zebra's debut album a lot in 1983.....I thought they were the next great rock band.

^not obscure

Triumph had a couple of platinum and several gold albums. And charted at least 7 singles on the hot 100 and probably a dozen on rock charts.

my uncle knew one of the Zebra guys from HS - they rolled thru Houston this summer but I couldn't convince the rib to go with me to see them; I think they stay pretty active and are now based in the Carolinas

They played the US Festival along with Van Halen, Judas Priest, Scorpions, and some others.

I saw them at the Texxas Jamm in the Astrodome.

Definitely not obscure.

^ True. As a Canadian band, they always seemed under the shadow of Rush.
Zebra's singer voice reminded me of Rik Emmett.

Ditto I saw them twice actually....

1 was an all day rock festival in KC - Boudreaux, .38 special, Triumph, Foreigner, Journey

Emmett had a tremendous voice. He hit every note live.

And a damned good guitar player.

Nobody had a light show like Triumph.

Oh man, Steamroller at the Black Cat in the mid 90's. My god that seems like a lifetime ago, yet somehow like yesterday at the same time.

My buddy introduced me to one of his friends on 6th Street in about '95 or '96 sometime. The guys name was Myles and was in a local band. For some reason I remembered the guys name but forgot the band name almost instantly. A few years later I was watching MTV and recognized Myles as the lead singer of the band playing their new hit song "The Way". I'll always remember Fastball now.

Exactly.

First time I saw them hit that giant disco ball with the lasers, and those little segments of laser flood the entire arena, it was Allsome.

Lots of pyrotechnics as well. No idea how anybody in the first ten rows could see to drive home, they blew so many flash bombs in a row.

The Flametrick Subs - LLLLONG time ago, my BIL and me used to roadie for them, travelling to and from Waco and Austin. They had many different band members, and a great friend of mine Bob was their bassist. Bob passed away a couple of years ago but I got to see him at the funeral of my BIL's mother before he himself passed. Great fun and missed times past. Glad I survived it.
