The chick in that trailer, Haley Bennett, is an up and coming actress my buddy knows. Just sent him a text. Ha, this was part of the exchange...

HIM: She is crazy but talented and definitely fiery

ME: Oh crazy in real life?

HIM: Crazy in real life. Mostly good crazy which translates into fun but also some psycho crazy.

Tempted to try and see for myself...
Best kind of crazy to get behind for a little while.
Or under....

I would honestly be happier with a remake of the remake...if they actually remade the remake.

Mexican village in peril.
Mean Mexican villain.
Teaching the villagers how to set traps and fight.
Traveling down to Mexico with the straggling seventh guy that nobody wants.
It goes on and on.

At this point pretty much any action/comedy that Chris Pratt is in I will go see. He is actually the only actor I have ever said that about.
I'm excited for Passengers in December.

One of the best scripts I've ever read. Cannot wait.

Why do I get the sense that this remake is going to hang it's hat on action sequences and campy humor for box office success?

There hasn't been a good western since The Unforgiven.

I don't care if they are remakes. As long as they are good. I'll take westerns any way I can get them.

There was also
Appaloosa - average at best
Maverick - more of a comedy but I liked it
Legends of the Fall - more of a period piece drama
The Alamo - more of a war movie of course

And some really really bad movies of course
A million ways to die in the west
Wild Wild West
The Lone Ranger
Cowboys and Aliens

Saw it tonight. Meh. It's a popcorn western. No grittines. No originality. Clichd. Decent action sequences that Hollywood has done a 1000 times before.

It seemed to me that Denzel decided he wanted to do a Western to finish his movie portfolio and once he started filming he just mailed it in.

Pratt was Pratt. He is really getting type cast into the same character of the wise cracking good guy trying to play the tough guy. I really want to see him play a character with a little more depth one of these days. I think he has the chops for it, but man he needs to give something else a try.

Hawk and the Asian sidekick carried anything that might be considered decent acting in this one.

It's not going to win any awards but it will earn some money because of the cast and the fact that it's a western. The director should have sent the cast to hang out with Eastwood, Kurt Russell and Val Kilmer for a couple weeks before they started filming.

The original (or, as it's called in our house, real) version grossed 2.5 times its production cost just in America. So this one will have to gross $237.5 million in just this country to keep even with it. Good luck. The pathetic financial return on GHOSTBUSTERS was, so far, 1.35 times its production cost, nowhere within sight of making a profit. Hollywood should learn its lesson about remakes. By comparison, the real GHOSTBUSTERS grossed about 9.7 times its production cost.

It was actually a fun movie. Nothing great. Popcorn flick. But it was a decent western with some good action. D'Onofrio was great as were Hawke and his Asian sidekick. Pratt was good, but I agree he is getting typecast. He was basically Starlord in a Western. I am a sucker for Westerns, so I loved it for that alone, but those complaining are just complaining to be movie snobs. This wasn't great, but it was very good; and it was fun. I think it succeeded at doing what it set out to do. It was a western with summer blockbuster action. Paid homage to some of the westerns that went before it. A little bit of Tombstone, Pale Rider, Open Range, and of course the original--I think there was even a bit of the music from the original thrown in there.

That does look good, and it looks like he's stepping out of that comfort zone in that one too
