Did we just circle this around to Humping the Buffalo Heifer?

Buffalo Hump =/= Buffalo Heifer

I know. It was meant to be a joke.

Sorry, had meter turned off.

I actually use this line when I hear about someone famous kicking the bucket..

"what did they do, choke on a pepper..?"

Only the men who hear it understand and appreciate it.

Speaking a little Comanche is an important part of being a Lonesome Dove fan.

Gus speakin' Comanche

It's amazing what an attention getter this is.

I've watched the series, but I recently bought the entire book series and I'm planning on knocking it out this summer. What order would y'all recommend reading the books, chronological or in order of publication?

I would suggest reading Lonesome Dove first and then Dead Mean Walking, Comanche Moon and Streets of Laredo. Just because Lonesome Dove is really the classic and sets the tone for the characters throughout the series

Not a bad suggestion. Of course with Lonesome Dove being written first and then the prequels being written after that, there is a slightly different feel to Lonesome Dove than if they had been written in the supposed chronological order (i.e. Dead Man's Walk, then Comanche moon, followed by Lonesome Dove). But I don't think you would go wrong either if you did read them in the chronological order of the story.

If you've watched the series or grew up on the series like I did, You'll need to get used to the book characters and film characters being different in age and appearance, particularly Pea.

If I could go back in time I wouldn't read streets of Laredo. It ruined my image of some of the characters because it's unbelievable.

Definitely read LD first, though.
