Ok, so I listened to both LOR and Conan Anvil of Crom while out jogging last night. All I can say is that if you haven't heard at least that basic theme for Conan, you really ought to, preferably on a large pair of Klipsch speakers. Such a great movie tune. Much of the rest of the soundtrack is as moving as it was when I was 12-13 years old.

Back to the John Williams, Superman should be right up there, or at least the main title. It is inseparable from that movie and tale.

Williams is simply the best of all time. No one is anywhere near him.

When you list out his filmography, it's hard to believe they all came from one guy.

Listening to the Interstellar soundtrack right now, Hans Zimmer knows what to do. John Williams will always be the most important to me based on Star Wars alone, but Zimmer is pretty incredible as well.

I reckon this is all about opinions, but how one can put Garden State compilation in the same league as Close Encounters or any J Williams soundtrack....


I'm looking at you, Coldplay fan.

I reckon because I've never heard the Close Encounters soundtrack and I don't own/listen to any instrumental sound tracks. Also I reckon because Coldplay only has one song on that sound track and it probably one of the bottom three songs IMO, though I still like the Coldplay song.

I have that soundtrack/score on CD, and it is the only "classical" CD that I can bring myself to listen to from beginning to end.

Conan beats Magnificent Seven .sorry.

Devils advocate here. I'd bet perceived quality of the chosen film matters greatly. For me, Dances with Wolves doesn't get a nod for the simple fact that I only saw it once and I only remember one ol wolf.

American Gangster wasn't a soundtrack, it was a concept album, which Jay coat ailed on the heels of the movie. The 9th Wonder version was better anyway.
