Sounds like most people would think this is good news we won't be seeing it in 48fps. It's apparently akin to the soap opera effect alot of the new tvs had a few years ago that everyone hated.

Also, the comments below that article are hilarious.

I don't really like Ocrist and Glamdring looking so different.

Seems to me as the swords are related, they should have a similar style

Well, I do remember that Jackson was asked after LOTR why Gandalf's sword didn't glow blue like Sting, and he said it was b/c they "forgot" it was supposed to. Perhaps for consistency sake to the LOTR movies, they opted to not make Thorin's sword look so much like Gandalf's.

"My local cinema starts selling Hobbit tickets tomorrow and according to them the running length is 2 hours and 44 minutes."

From my twitter, retweeted by theonering.net

Take it with a grain of salt, but if true, that is just awesome.

So the trilogy will run over 8 hours!?!?

I love Tolkien, and despite my quibbles PJ will no doubt make great movies, but that's the definition of bloated. I'll watch them all and be greatly entertained, but the average fan and the press? They may pan this thing.

I can understand the doubts, but there is just so much stuff that Tolkien sort of mentions offhandedly and glosses over, that can be hours of screen time. I mean hell, the majority of the battle of five armies happens offscreen. (Offpage?)

Yes, in its original form, The Hobbit was a much simpler adventure story. But the fact of the matter is, it is now just a small part of a much greater mythology, one that a lot of people are invested in now that they've seen the LOTR trilogy and presumably have read other Tolkien books.

People want to see the story of Thorin's company retaking the Lonely Mountain, but the filmmakers have to frame it within the context of what is currently going on in Middle Earth. Otherwise, they have not done their job of really connecting the two films and making it one cohesive story.

I am excited to spend as much time in Middle Earth as I can. To me, this is good news. I can guarantee that there would be people complaining if it was just one film and they cut stuff out of the book.

Anyway, enough ranting.

Screw the average fan and the press. I want to have a 20+ hour marathon when all these things get released to extended edition DVDs. Hell yeah. The more movie the better.

From what I remember of my reads, he is supposed to be the youngest dwarf, without a true beard.

You're preaching to the choir here. Hell, I liked king kong, and that may have been the most overdone movie in history. If there are 45 min dwarf chase sequences in the first movie though, the next two may bomb at the theater. PJ is good, and the studio clearly believes in him, but you are only as good as your last movie. If #1 isn't a massive hit, the studio will be all over his **** about 2 and 3.

Unless he puts out 2 hours and 45 mins of midget s&m porn, I do not see any of these movies bombing.

Are you referring to Thorin and no beard? I am pretty sure Fili and Kili are the youngest of Bilbo's dwarven companions.

Pete's finally commented on the length of the movie, which is 2 hours 40 minutes. Will be the shortest yet in the series, but I'll take it.
