Does Tejano music have cross-cultural appeal?

I have seen "outsiders" really into J-pop, K-pop, Bollywood, that Spanish guitar type music, Celtic music, Indian chanting stuff, African tribal drums, songs of the whales and all that.

But.... I have yet to come across an "outsider" banging Tejano music. All the music listed above, one can atleast get into it for the melody, beats, spiritual connection, hot girls, etc. Tejano music just seems like polka music with a Mexican flair.

my son was in a Tejano Conjunto ensemble last semester- the only blonde in the class ... most folks not sure what that sound is :: my goto descriptor was "Mexican zydeco", German accordions and polka/waltz beats w Mexican guitar and flair

Yeah. Tejano music isn't part of my culture but my family and I like some of it (Selena, Emilio Navaira, La Madia, Bobby Pulido. The older stuff). I tend to like all music. I'm actually looking into getting an accordion because I like Norteno, corridos, polka and vallenato music.
