Curious as to why the med center is your only option with some many hospitals around the metro? Is there not something closer to your home that is an option for the extended stay?
Why would you go to a regional hospital for something serious when you have access to one of the best medical centers anywhere in the world?
Those regional hospitals are mostly connected with the main hospital in the med center. A lot of the same staff and doctors.

MD Andersons' cancer treatment clinics out in the burbs are just as good as the ones at MDA in the med center. It's the same medicine and same staff that now just don't drive down to the med center. Now maybe there is some stuff they can't do, and you might have your first few appointments at the med center, but the treatment will still be the same for a lot of stuff.

Maybe the specialist for the OP is not available or whatever, I was just asking if it was an option.

Others have already addressed it but to confirm, we have a very specific condition that requires specialist attention. Additionally, in the off chance something goes bad, I want the best ER this city can muster mere feet from my wife and daughter. With this condition, there is a specific threat that if said threat occurs, an immediate emergency C section is required. And I mean immediate or we risk losing mother, child or both.

You better believe the Texas Medical Center is one of the best hospitals in the world, so yeah, the high risk doc said we should deliver thereā€¦ we're gonna deliver there.

I do now. The med center is right down Southgate from us. Bring a bike and you can park in front of our house. We can fire up the grill on the weekends and bring your wife some homemade food instead of something from the cafeteria. You probably still have my number, but my email is in my profile.

This, for any newbies, is the dictionary definition of Good Bull. And perhaps also Good Cow.
94chem,
That, sir, was the greatest post in the history of TexAgs. I salute you. -- Dough

Ok so updateā€¦ My in-laws live in Louisiana. They decided to snag a 2 bedroom AirBnB 3 stops down the red line from MH. For a month. As a base for them to come and go while we're there and while the baby is in the NICU.

So A: I have a place to park for free, B: we have an easy spot to do laundry and cook and C: we have a place to stay when discharged after deliver but the baby is still in NICU.

What an amazing gift when things get challenging!!

I genuinely appreciate the many offers to help in many ways I've received. It's amazing to see the outpouring and it's inspiring. Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts. All three of us. :-)

Well folks, it's getting to be go timeā€¦ two weeks ago we got a diagnosis of a condition that, long story short, means my wife will need to be under constant surveillance for a few more weeks before we have a planned C Section some time late March., taking her out a month early. So for two weeks the wife and I have been in afterburner mode getting stuff done. We had until April 26th to be ready, but now we go into the Texas Medical Center inpatient tomorrow. So our prep time got cut by 7 weeks. I think we got to everything but at the end of the day it doesn't matter. Pray that in ~3 weeks time, we'll have us our little girl safe in the NICU.

How's the nursery look?

It's a beautiful nursery but where is the mobile above the crib?

Praying that the bun cooks a little longer and mom and baby are healthy from now until forever.

M&M Grill has one of the best hamburgers in Houston and their mexican food isn't bad.
The donut shop right around the corner from there is also really good.

also many prayers for mama and baby. Nursery looks gorgeous!!

My wife is an interior designer and picked a very similar green for our last nursery so looks great to me. Good luck with everything, I absolutely love being a father to daughters. It is the best thing that has ever happened to me outside of meeting my beautiful bride.

Wanted to update:

Went in patient 3/6, baby born 3/13, generally healthy but would require surgical correction of an issues discovered at birth. (TEF repair if you're curious, look it up. Simple procedure, little tedious to recover from.)

She's been in NICU since but is generally stable, healthy and growing. She's beautiful like her mama, full head of hair and has a sweet, quiet disposition. Quite the princess.

We're anxious to get home but a lot of the advice given here worked out well. Thanks again to all!

Favorite spots have been:

Nua Thai in downtown
Lao Sze Chuan in Montrose
Katz's for late nights
Zalat Pizza
Common Bond
Angelo's on OST
Cleburne Cafeteria

We much prefer the Kroger on Main and Kirby over the HEB on Braeswood and 288 despite being HEB people.

Got a parking contract for medical plaza building and that worked out great.

Rooms were large enough at Children's Memorial Hermann for me to bring an air mattress into the hospital. Worked out great.

We got an AirBNB literally directly on the red line. As convenient as I'd find it, my wife and MIL immediately determined they didn't think it was safe so we've not ridden it once.
