No wins at 2 or 3 doubles is very worrisome. Can't keep going at that pace. Here are some things that I know. If Mark continues on at the rate that he has been going over the majority of his career, he will go down as one of the most successful coaches in A&M sports history. However, as any coach will tell you, you are only as good as your players and what you have to work with. We have 3 and perhaps maybe four superstars and that is it. The rest are good players. Some are very mediocre doubles players. We lost three great players and replaced them with two comparable players so we think. Not sure why the last scholarship wasn't filled, but I do know that they were after several players that didn't pan out and also we were holding it for Carson as recently as a few weeks ago. Mismanagement? I don't know. Bad luck? I don't know. This team still has the tools to win more sec titles and will have a shot once again at winning it all. Let's find a way to get us to the promised land and not start doubting what we have which is becoming a golden dynasty.

That's been common knowledge with the players. She was even out with them in San Diego on the first day.

Carson's last season at A&M ended in the Spring of 2023. Everyone was fully aware of that at that time.

Of course, that doesn't mean she isn't still friends with her old teammates.

Are you saying it's correct that we were holding a spot for her?

I don't think anyone who makes the decisions thought she was coming back as recently as a few weeks ago. It was on the table at the beginning of the fall, but not in December.

Her being out with them in SD doesn't mean she was close to playing for the Aggies a few weeks ago.

They were not holding a spot.

I'll take out the beginning of the sentence which made it confusing.

I know that she and Mark met on several occasions about it in the fall and as late as early December.

Looks like Mark will need to split up some teams or try someone new at 3 doubles. Doesn't seem to be a lot of options. Pretty sad how quick everyone is turning on the coaches and the team. Pretty sure our winning percentage in doubles for the last two season was above 90%. Hard to expect to win the doubles point every single match especially with no-add scoring in a set to 6. Yes, the doubles needs to get better, but let's all be a little more realistic with the doubles and the team and the coaches as a whole. Is this how true Aggies behave? Pretty sorry!

Yes. We expect to win the doubles point every match. That's not unreasonable for a top 5 team. It has been an issue for the second year in a row and is one of be reasons we can't progress past the elite 8 (that's what i call it). It's not bad bull to call out the obvious. We are all still here supporting and will continue to do so regardless.

I don't know if that means they were holding her a spot.

Pretty sure Carson had moved on already. Maybe she will chime in again and tell us the truth.

Home opener coming up on Saturday. At least we get a break from today's ice and 25 degree high temp.

Saturday's forecast:
High 45
Low 33
partly cloudy
1% chance of precip
9 mph wind

Agree. Just a passionate group wanting the best for A&M's players, coaches and overall team.

It is an elite team with a stated objective to win a natty. Mark talks about it all the time. The discussion on our performance is relative to where we currently sit against that objective.

  • Build a program with great players and coaches - check
  • Become consistently ranked in the top 25 - check
  • Become consistently ranked in the top 10 - check
  • Win conference titles and compete for NCAA titles - check
  • Win team NCAA title - not quite yet
Good problem to have. We are so close and we have the best player in the nation which is such a rare advantage. It's like having a Heisman QB - better take advantage.

Will be in town this weekend. Do we still have Harvard and ACU coming in Saturday? It will be cold and my wife thinks I'm nuts but I'd like to make a match.

Coastal, the teams are definitely going to make the trip, matches are usually decided on gameday where weather is concerned. The only way I've ever seen them cancelled is if the weather conditions are outside NCAA regulation guidelines, and let me tell you, those are brutal. Mark and the coaches will work together to do everything possible to make this thing work to allow for the most optimal conditions that are forecasted. I've even seen them make a trip to Waco or Houston to go indoors. Hopefully, by next year we won't have to sit on needles and pins to see what might happen. If I'm not mistaken Mark has the final ruling, but you have to know that he wants these ladies to be playing against somebody else every chance he can get. Right now though the ladies need every last one of us that are interested in their success to show up to let them know we are right there with them. We need to be loud after the point (please not during), encouraging (no matter what), and hang in there until the last point is secured.

We've had teams come in before and not agree on playing outside or inside, and leave without playing. That was baffling to me.

That is rare, they'll usually play outside if they can.

From last year's rules:
Quote:

Inclement Weather & Extreme Heat
Collegiate tennis is an outdoor sport. All matches shall be played
outdoors unless weather or court conditions threaten the health and
safety of student athletes or if contracted otherwise for winter month
competition. (Revised August 2020)
1. Determining playable outdoor weather conditions when indoor
backup courts are available.
Matches shall be played outdoors
unless the projected weather forecast for a minimum of:
16 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Regulations
two hours out of a three-hour time period from the scheduled
match start time in Division I, II & NAIA
two hours out of a four-hour time period from the scheduled
match start time for Division III and JUCO
according to www.weather.com is:
a. A high of less than 50; or
b. Sustained winds (not including wind gusts) of more than 20
miles per hour.
If the outdoor conditions have changed by the end of the doubles
play, it is understood that both coaches and the Referee may agree
to move the match indoors. (Revised August 2020)
2. Decision to move indoors.
a. Match that has not yet begun. In the event of inclement weather,
a team match must be played indoors if at least three indoor
courts are available at a varsity quality tennis facility. (See ITA
Regulation III.A. for a definition of varsity quality tennis facility.)
The decision to move indoors shall be made 90 minutes before
the start of the match if the weather conditions are not forecast
to improve. Coaches may agree to set an alternate time to make
this decision. This information shall be communicated with the
Referee as soon as possible. (Revised August 2020)
b. Match already in progress. If, due to weather, play is suspended
at any point while a dual match is in progress, play must
resume outdoors within one hour of the delay, unless coaches
agree otherwise. If this is not possible, matches must be
moved indoors. If the team match is already in progress but
has not been completed and two or fewer matches remain,
these matches must be continued until the completion of
the team match, even if fewer than three courts are available.
Individual match results (doubles or singles) do not count
if there is no team match winner due to postponement or
suspension. (Revised August 2020)
3. Match moved indoors stays indoors. If the match is moved indoors
due to inclement weather or darkness, it shall stay indoors until
the completion of the match. For in-progress matches, if the delay
moving indoors takes more than 15 minutes, players shall be
granted a warm-up period of up to 10 minutes with their team. If
the delay in play is fewer than 15 minutes, players shall be granted
a warm-up period of up to 3 minutes with their team. (Revised
August 2019)
4. Inclement weather and darkness procedures with no indoor backup
available.

Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Regulations 17
a. Match that has not yet begun. If no indoor backup courts
are available, teams shall wait for a minimum of two hours
before making the decision to cancel or postpone a match, if
conditions are forecast to improve. (Revised August 2020)
b. Match already in progress. Teams shall wait for a minimum
of two hours to resume play before making the decision
to cancel or postpone a match, if conditions are forecast
to improve. If both coaches agree that the postponed match
can be played within 48 hours from the last postponement,
the match shall resume at the point at which it was suspended.
If a postponed match cannot be resumed within 48 hours of
the last postponement, the match may be rescheduled. In
this case, the entire dual match will start anew unless both
coaches agree otherwise. (Revised August 2022)
c. Suspension of an outdoor match due to weather. If a match is
suspended due to weather for more than 15 minutes, players
are then entitled to a warm-up period of up to 10 minutes.
This warm-up shall be done with the players' teammates
prior to resuming the suspended match. Matches that are
suspended for fewer than 15 minutes do not qualify for a
warm-up period. (Adopted August 2021)

High of less than 50 is crazy to me. I've always wondered why the temp is 50.

I've seen and heard of teams leaving without playing because the temp was below 50, even with no wind and sun.

Harvard starts their season by hosting Boston College, presumably indoors, at 3:30 today. They had one player ranked #103 at the end of the fall in singles.

ACU will hopefully begin their season this weekend in Aggieland.

www.weather.com currently forcasting a high of 47 degrees on Saturday.

Both baylor's men's and women's teams will be playing out of town this weekend.

Thanks for that link.

I guess we would be considered "no indoor backup available" until the courts are completed at Midtown Park.

So does that just mean coach's decision on if we start?

For a non conference match, I'd say yes. We wouldn't want to play a north team indoors anyways. If anything, I think we would cancel the ACU match and play Harvard. We've done that in the past with someone like them or Sam Houston.

Sorry for the delay Gap, but Anchor gave you exactly the same thing I would have. I think Bigfoot hit the nail on the head. We play Harvard in just below acceptable conditions and thank ACU for their willingness to play us. Fortunately this only lasts a couple of matches anyway. By the end of the season we'll be wondering where's the breeze? About Carson, everybody has an off day. My money will still be on her in the long run. I don't know what or how much support she's able to have in her corner. But those matches that far away from home make for some unbelievable lonely times especially if she's by herself.

i see where the match against Harvard tomorrow has been moved to Baylor. Maybe our new AD can find a way to undo the City of Bryan indoor arena and actually move one to the A&M Campus.

Edit: isn't on social media but is on the website

At least we are getting to play I guess. City of Bryan facilities be perfect but better than having to borrow from another school
