Texas A&M enters top 10 in both college basketball polls

Welcome back, Texas A&M Basketball, to some rarefied air.

All eyes in the SEC — and many elsewhere — are now on Billy Kennedy's Aggies, who on Monday landed at No. 10 in the Associated Press poll and No. 8 in the USA Today Coaches after running their winning streak to eight and conference record to 5-0.

It is the first appearance by Texas A&M in the top 10 of both polls since week 11 of the 2007-08 season (Jan. 14, 2008).

The Aggies defeated Florida, 71-68, in a grind-it-out contest at Reed Arena on Tuesday before heading to Athens, Ga. to give Mark Fox's Georgia Bulldogs an absolute waxing — 79-45 — that ranked among UGA's worst home losses in several decades.

In the process, forward Jalen Jones earned SEC Player of the Week honors after averaging 19 points and nine rebounds during A&M's 2-0 week.

The SEC-leading Aggies are also the conference's highest-ranked team. Kentucky, which ranked 23rd in the AP and 19th in the Coaches, and No. 24/18 South Carolina round out the league's current collection of ranked squads.

On Tuesday A&M (5-0 in SEC play) will host LSU (4-1) and freshman phenom Ben Simmons in a 1 vs. 2 battle in the conference standings. Then, Saturday, the Aggies will take on league bottom-feeder Missouri at Reed Arena.

Another 2-0 week would make the sky appear to be the limit for the 2015-16 team.
