There have been nail-biters and blowouts. There have been amazing comebacks and improbable upsets. There have been last-minute touchdowns and clutch goal line stands.

Through 121 seasons of Texas A&M football, the Aggies have posted 717 victories.

One resulted in cotton falling like snow at Kyle Field. Another had a historic “Bear” hug. Several came at the expense of Heisman Trophy recipients.

Some transformed star players like Crow, Hargett, Johnny Football and the Haskell Hurricane into legends.

From the Dixie Classic, to the Sugar Bowl, to — oh, my gracious — a stunning triumph at Tuscaloosa, TexAgs has attempted to rank the Aggies’ 50 greatest football victories to be revealed in sets of five.

See if your Top 50 matches ours.

Texas A&M’s greatest football victories: Nos. 50-46 ... 45-41 ... 40-36 ... 35-31

Andrew Kilzer, TexAgs The 2010 OU win was part of a long winning streak to finish the season that resulted in A&M finishing among the top 25.
30. Texas A&M 33, Oklahoma 19 (Nov. 6, 2010): A short Ryan Tannehill touchdown pass and a Coryell Judie 100-yard kickoff return for a touchdown to open the second half staked the Aggies to a 19-0 lead over the 11th-ranked Sooners.

OU fought back with 17 unanswered points, but Cyrus Gray responded with a 23-yard touchdown run. Tannehill followed with a 64-yard touchdown to Ryan Swope.

The A&M defense took it from there and stopped OU on downs at the Aggies’ 1-yard line late in the fourth quarter.

The victory ended a seven-game losing streak to the Sooners. The Aggies went on finish in a three-way tie for first place in the Big 12 South standings, but OU advanced to the conference championship game.

29. Texas A&M 35, TCU 21 (Nov. 24, 1984): The previous week Ray Childress voiced his frustration after a 28-0 loss at Arkansas and demanded more from his teammates.

They got the message.

James Flowers returned an interception 53 yards for a touchdown, Anthony Toney rushed seven yards for another TD and Eric Franklin booted a 50-yard field goal to stake A&M to an early 17-0 lead over the No. 17 Horned Frogs.

A&M increased its lead to 28-7 in the third quarter on a 3-yard Toney touchdown run and Thomas Sanders’ run for a two-point conversion. Toney added a third touchdown run in the fourth quarter to complete the upset.

Sanders rushed for 107 yards and Toney rushed for 97 as A&M evened its record at 5-5. More important, the Aggies got a boost of confidence and momentum heading into the season finale against Texas.

28. Texas A&M 7, Texas 0 (Nov. 27, 1919): The Aggies entered their season-finale against Texas undefeated and had not allowed any points. Meanwhile, the Longhorns were 6-2 and riding a four-game winning streak. The potent Texas offense had scored at least 26 points five previous games.

Yet, the Aggies also shut out the Longhorns to win the Southwest Conference championship and finished the season unbeaten, untied and unscored upon.

27. Texas A&M 7, Arkansas 6 (Nov. 2, 1957): On the bus ride to Fayetteville, Coach Bear Bryant admonished star player John David Crow for laughing.

It did not matter that the incident occurred two years before when the Aggies played Arkansas to a 7-7 tie. Bryant was still angry. He told Crow “you owe us a game.”

Quarterback Roddy Osborne threw an interception in the final minutes that Arkansas’ Don Horton returned deep into A&M territory. But with less than a minute remaining, Crow intercepted a pass at the goal line to secure the victory. The Aggies remained undefeated and Crow went on to win the Heisman Trophy.
Crow paid his debt.

The No. 1 ranked Aggies had allowed a total of six points in the previous five games combined. Yet, late in the fourth quarter the Aggies held just a 7-6 lead on a 12-yard touchdown run by Crow.

However, quarterback Roddy Osborne threw an interception in the final minutes that Arkansas’ Don Horton returned deep into A&M territory.

But with less than a minute remaining, Crow intercepted a pass at the goal line to secure the victory.

The Aggies remained undefeated and Crow went on to win the Heisman Trophy.

26. Texas A&M 30, Ole Miss 27 (Oct. 6, 2012): The Aggies trailed 27-17 and were backed up at their own 1-yard line with less than eight minutes to play.

Then a series of big plays enabled the Aggies to capture their first Southeastern Conference road victory despite committing six turnovers.

Quarterback Johnny Manziel connected with Mike Evans for a 32-yard gain. Two plays later, Manziel ran 29 yards for a touchdown.

On Ole Miss’ ensuing possession, A&M’s defense stopped cold a run on fourth-and-1 at the Ole Miss 39-yard line. Four plays later, Manziel passed to Ryan Swope for a 20-yard touchdown with 1:48 remaining.

Tony Hurd intercepted a Bo Wallace pass to end Ole Miss’ last drive and clinch the victory.

That was a 10 play goal line stand against one of the best offenses in the country. Other than Stopping BO ... That's the best defensive series in A&M history.

is the 1976 team going to get shutout?

they are the perennial under-appreciated / forgotten team in aggie lore. Emory's best team. And one of the top 5 all-time seasons in aggie football history (post-World War II)
