tiderfans (or what ever it's called) have a chip on their shoulder??

Man, after reading some of their comments I hope we beat the crap out of those dorks!!

I also got the impression that they seem to be more worried about UH then playing us.
I realize that they lost to UH during the regular season and that they like us have good crowds at home. But reading thier boards you would think that we did not have a home field advantage.

Sorry for not posting a link.

Just my opinion on reading their boards.

Alabama is a.) pretty good and b.) really hot right now. We have a very tough draw and if we get out of this regional still standing, we will definately have accomplished something.

'Bama won't be intimidated by our fans and they have seen a full slate of SEC pitching and hitting. A big part of me is hoping that UH knocks them off in game 1 and sends them to the losers bracket.

Bama will be tough! No doubt about it.

Some of their fans probably watched the Saturday game against tu, and heard about the one later that night. If I were them, after winning that tournament, I'd be pretty damn cocky too!

At this point, I just hope our pitching holds up and we cna get some production form the bottom of the lineup. If that happens we'll be fine.

Bama won't be scared of A&M or anyone in this regional. They are confident after running through the SEC tourney.

Nobody said that they should be scared of us, and they may have won the tournament (SEC), but look at their record.

We were pretty hot going into the tournament and look what happened.
They may have play a good tournament, but that is just it. I am not too impressed with their regurlar season record.

Also, we play in the Big XII, which is no choped liver either plus we are playing at home. The crowd will be extra intense for this one.

By the way one of my friends, went to Alabama prior to transfering into A&M and he tells me that they get good crowds at their BB games, but the atmosphere in nothing like what we have at Olsen.

If the ut's, Baylor's, Nebraska's, etc... get raddled when they come here and they know what to expect, you don't think that a team that has not played here will be surprised and raddled after they see what Olsen is all about???

I am just saying that there is no reason for them to look down at A&M baseball.

I watched most of the SEC championship game. They just clouded up and rained all over LSU. Granted, the tourney was in probably their largest alumni base, but they looked strong and confident.

Bama goes to LSU every other year, so I doubt they will get rattled by what they see at Olsen.

Funny thing, Kansas went to LSU this year and still got rattled by Olsen Field. Maybe it was because Kansas swept the Tigers at the Box and LSU fan was unusually quiet, I don't know. But I do know their coach said he thought LSU was a great atmosphere but that A&M was the best he'd ever seen.

We'll get into their heads, we get into everyone's heads. If they are mature enough, they'll laugh and drive on. If not, they'll keep peaking up into the stands and be distracted from the game. Make a mistake and you're battling the rest of the weekend to forget about it.

The Box is a great place to see baseball. It's where I saw my first college game. But I don't think the atmosphere there is similar to what goes on at Olsen. That doesn't take away from LSU's titles in the past, and how well they do at home, but the two crowds are different. Like the point someone made earlier, if the opposing team can block out what's going on in the stands, then they have done a good job. But we've seen many times in the past that's difficult for some 18-22 year olds to do.

now come on guys....why would bama be talking about us right now...they play UH first and will be playing against UH's ace most likely...If I were from bama I'd be a lot more worried about UH currently too, they have to win that game before they can get to ours if we get past ORU, and I have read a lot of their stuff over there, not once did they casually dismiss our team...they said something along the lines of aTm is a good team but we can beat them if we bring our A game....they are actually FROM bama, of course they think they can beat us...they just beat a team seeded higher than us. It's much like us thinking we can beat any team that we are about to play. Thats what fans do, they support their own team, not talk about how the other team will beat the crap out of them. Do you people really expect alabama to praise aTm??? I know that probably didnt make a lot of sense but I just dont understand what you people expect them to say!

Somewhere my post must have lost it's meaning. I'm saying they will be confident because they just won the SEC tournament, not that they are justified.

We're still the number one seed, and Olsen Magic is back in a big way!

I was present when Olsen Magic was born. I have seen very few teams capable of ignoring the scene. I hope our crowd is ready to help the good guys!

However, there are some differences when the NCAA comes to town. The announcers must make it a neutral playing field as much as possible. There will fewer "prompts" from the announcer than what normally happens during a regular season game. Again, it's up to the crowd to really crank it up.

Not sure where you're getting your information, but Alabama and LSU usually lead the nation in attendance each year. Bama has been ranked among the nation's top 5 teams in average attendance each of the past 4 or 5 years.

Our stadium holds 6,118 and it's usually a sellout. In 34 home dates last year, we drew 211,331 fans for an average of 6,216 per game.

So no they won't be intimidated at all. Good luck to your team

Are your statistics padded like LSU's by counting season ticket holders for every game, regardless if they show up or not? Or do 6,000 fans really show up?
I've been to an Alabama game on a weekday a few years back. There was MAYBE 1,000 there.

Attendance bickering. You can tell it's the football offseason. Anyway, these figures show that Texas A&M, Texas, Alabama, and LSU are constantly top 5 in attendance. I think the point that some people are trying to make is that the Olsen experience is something most schools aren't used to. That's regardless if those teams play to large crowds at home or on the road. It's the type of crowd that is at that game. I have been to LSU games, and I have been to A&M games. I would say that the experience at both schools is quite different. Not that one is better than the other, just different.

its not just the numbers we talk about here at olsen....as mentioned earlier, lsu holds a higher avg attendance than us by a couple of thousand yet olsen is still more intimidating. The reason being is the fans and the atmosphere. Olsen and Disch Faulk hold about the same number of people at max and at average, but Olsen is MUCH louder and a much more intimidating place to play. For example, a few years ago U of Maryland came to play at Olsen, and after the first game the coach had quoted something along the lines of Never coming back to Olsen because the fans were just too much too handle or something along those lines....needless to say, they got made fun of the next day for being crybabies etc. good times. It is the raggies that really make Olsen a fun place. This is not a diss on Bama's stadium...bama has a GREAT fan support in just about everything, and I'm not disputing that...I was just explaining why Olsen gets its rep. Thanks and Gig 'Em and RTR.
bamajama92
How long do you want to ignore this user?
agthatsagirl,

no offense intended, but your rep is only in your own eyes. I never knew...and honestly didn't care...that A&M had a good baseball program until this regional was announced.

i'm not really tryin to get into a p*ss*ng contest about attendance because i realize that the attendance numbers are pretty close for both schools...which is the point. the point that i'm trying to make is that we're not some backwoods Hickory basketball team who is use to playing in front of a few hundred fans and then we're in awe because we get to play in front of 50,000 people in the championship game, like some people on here seem to be making it out to be. These are college athletes and potential future pro athletes who are used to playing under extreme adversity. I can assure you what they see at A&M can't even come close to comparing to what they see of Auburn fans when we play in Auburn...and those people hate us with a passion 24/7/365!

I can see where a freshman might be rattled by being thrown into a hostile environment for the first time, but i just don't buy it for seasoned veterans of the game.

The intensity of the crowd has nothing to do with having a rival school playing. We don't do anything special when Texas shows up to play. It's the same if the opponent is Texas or UCLA.

There is just some excitement right now with Alabama coming to town because of the whole Fran thing. Some Aggie fans aren't exactly fans of UA right now, and the same is true the other way around. It's just believed that UA fans viewed our school as the equivalent to some directional, and we're kind of looking forward to having Alabama come into town to see what the 4th largest school in the nation is all about.

It would probably be better for us to have you guys in the losers brackets, as it would be better for you guys if we were there instead of you, but if we met up in the Regional final, I think that would be a good one to see.
bamajama92
How long do you want to ignore this user?
to be quite honest with you, A&M is the least of my worries right now! I'm nervous as heck having to play Houston. There isn't just one game i'm afraid of cause quite frankly i'm afraid of all of them!

I'll be biting my nails till they bleed for each game we play this week because this is definitely a tough regional!
Captain Insano
How long do you want to ignore this user?
BamaJama92:

I was actually asking a question, not trying to flame you or your baseball attendance. My only point is that attendance records can be skewed (don't know if you do that at Alabama or not - but early season non conference games don't draw as well anywhere comparatively)

Enjoy Olsen. I can honestly say that I have been to baseball regionals in several places, and while they are all exciting, there's no place like Olsen in my mind. (I am biased) But, I've never been to Dudy Noble, and have only seen Bama in an early season weekday game.

Granted, as intimidating as Olsen can be, no SEC team is going to have the shock on their faces that Long Beach State had in '99. That was classic.
agthatsagirl
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Your opinions are your opinions. Like I said, I know Bama has great attendance numbers as well and they wont be shocked at all by the crowd....but its the fans that can get in their head....now obviously we wont rattle everyone on the field, but cmon, baylors third baseman made FIVE errors in ONE game at olsen...we started raggin on him bad after the first two yelling for our players to hit it to third and counting his practice swings as errors etc. One screw up by a player and the whole crowd at Olsen picks up on what the raggies decide to make fun of that player about. You are right about worrying about Houston right now much as we should be worry about ORU...I for one am definitely NOT looking past ORU b/c I know they have some pretty good pitching and their bats arent horrible either. It is very hard not to think about us playing each other though, considering the whole December ordeal. Anyway, this is sad indeed that there is so much hatred between our schools, they both have so much in common. Tradition, GREAT fan support even when a team isnt that great, and of course Southern pride . gig em and rtr

bamajama,

Now let's not hear any of that townspeople of hickory talk from you. A&M is not exactly the cow college you might think it is. We have almost four times the enrollment here that you do at your silly school and traditions that are actually not based on football.

You better get ready to pull your bootstraps up cause you're coming into territory that doesn't like you. Your fans and administration have said things that royally pissed us off. Being a fairly conservative community, we don't forget stuff like that.

Yes, I know mama called Bear Bryant away from us long ago, and without him nobody would care that Alabama exhisted. What I'm getting at is that you've pissed daddy off and it's time to go out behind the shed. You just better hope your boys are man enough to take the whoopin.

Freddy,
The comments made and actions taken by the University of Alabama last winter ticked me off as well, as well as many students, alums, and all of the redneck backwoods fans who couldn't get into Alabama-Huntsville. However, I don't mind a Tider coming over here and speaking objectively, no matter how few.

Alabama is red hot right now, and I am afraid to talk trash until the final out is made and the Texas Aggies are headed to Houston.

But, I know where you're coming from. I actually pull for Auburn now.

Yes that is true Captain Insano, but if everybody always took the high road, texags wouldn't be as much fun to read. If they win, I'll eat my crow plain and simple. Just as well, I will continue to post my opinion in the same brash manner as above. The raggies will be in rare form this weekend, and the team will feel it. Because of that and the performance I've seen from our team this season, I am confident that we can and will win our regional no matter who we play. I just hope we get the chance to make Alabama and the mighty Phyllis eat their words.

Freddy,
Yep, you have no idea how much I wish I could be there. Unfortunately, I am stuck far away. I'll be listening to Dave, yelling loud enough to scare the neighbors.

Phyllis...yes...I need to check the Finebaum (another real winner) archives to see if she's said anything profound on baseball this week. The infinite words of wisdom of Phyllis from Mulga....
