So my girlfriend is graduating A&M this semester and is going on to grad school. Since all application fees have been waved by all schools in Texas, she applied to all of them.

The Admission Status Screen for Texas Tech's Law School defiantly stands out.

Good gawd !! You aggies will believe anything....Like being NCS contenders at the beginning of the season. Bawhahahahaha.

BTW Tech law school grads pass the bar at a 93% "first time out" rate. The school is doing something right. Also I wonder how many people with aggie bach and Tech law degrees you insulted.

Congrats on making it to Tier Two, Tech? For reals, y'all.

quote:
US News has also decided to expand their rankings beyond the top 100, to include 75% of schools:

“In response to interest from both readers and institutions in knowing where more law schools sit, we have extended the list of numerically ranked institutions from the top 100 to the top three-quarters of the schools. The remaining schools are listed alphabetically as the second tier….”

Previously the top 100 were considered Tier I and II (Tier II being an unofficial status given to 51-100, not actually granted by US News). But, under the new rules, what? WHAT? No tier three?

Yup, that’s right: say goodbye to the term “TTT,” or “third-tier toilet.” Now these schools get individual numerical ratings, instead of being lumped into an undifferentiated “third tier.” And now Justice Clarence Thomas won’t have to defend his law clerks against allegations of TTT-hood.

That's not the criteria you should use...

All Tier 3 Law Schools teach toward the Bar so they can have a good pass rate. I even think a few of the lower ranked schools in Texas have classes you can take to prepare for the Bar. At schools like Texas, SMU, Baylor, and Houston, they expect their students to pass the bar with little or no help and concentrate on teaching the finer details of the law itself.

Hell, anyone could take BarBri for 3 months and probably have a good chance at passing the Bar.

Um, Baylor has more required bar-related courses than anyone. That's the foundation of their program. Tech doesn't teach "to the bar." But hey, if you want to pass it off as fact even though you have absolutely no clue what you're talking about, go ahead.

How would you even being to know what criteria "should" be used in determining whether a law school does a good job preparing its students or not? You think it's good to have students who've never taken Evidence go cram that subject in just for the Bar? If so, you're clearly ignorant.

...so why do I read so much about Law school and Business school from these other places? You all know that those two degrees haven't been in demand in the national labor market for at least the last 4-5 years?

I did not state a criteria to determine whether schools prepare student for the practice law, but I did state that a bar passage rate is not one of them when Joe Blow off the street can take BarBri and pass it without attending law school.

I think students that get placed in prestigious clerkships may be more indicative of whether the law school prepares the students or not.

I personally think that law school should be cut to two-years with a year internship, but that will never happen. My 3rd year was a waste as I had already accepted a job and my class rank was pretty safe.

About bar courses, does a transactional guy need a full blown course on evidence? Sure it would help, but (s)he can get the nuts and bolts from BarBri.

If that's the case, then why is UT's bar passage rate usually lower than some of the state's other schools?

Or, what clerkships they get is reflective of hiring preferences of those firms, which are filled with graduates from all those schools, including Tech. Sure, the others do so at a greater number, but Tech is pretty small. And it's only 44 years old. A lot of that is a self-perpetuating cycle. Tech's location is also something that makes that more difficult. That doesn't say the first thing about who's more prepared, or the education offered. I went there, and work with graduates of every school you've mentioned, as well as schools ranked higher (Vanderbilt, etc.) I've never once felt less prepared than any of them. Tech does a very good job. It's relative youth and location hurt it in those rankings, but you can believe whatever you want.

Regardless of rankings, here are the top 3 schools in the country, regardless of degree:

Texas A&M
Texas Tech
Florida

Believe me, I know.

sshhhh - don't tell Dr. P. he thinks you have a good team and still deserve that top 10 ranking. just like the horns were a top 5 team last year.

Roman - are you sure? I thought it was:

T-1: Texas A&M (anything)
T-1: Tx Tech (law)
T-1: Florida (grad tax law)

Stew is right. TardLaw isn't bad at all. It's not Texas, but don't blame him for what options he didn't have. And other than UT and U of H (seriously, U of H), you can't really put any of the other state law schools above Tech. The difference between Tech, SMU, and Baylor is negligible. In fact, it could be argued that you are a Tard for paying the difference to go to a Baylor or SMU when you would be getting the same education you are getting at Tech.

In all honesty, the law school you attend really isn't indicative of the attorney you will be. I know plenty of lawyers who went to South Texas or St. Mary's (or other similar, I didn't get into any of the better schools so I am paying out the ass for this one) who are much better litigators and attorneys than ones I know who went to UT. That's a fact.

FYI, my two roommates at UT School of Law were both Aggies and remain two of my closest friends to this day.

How are you talking smack about good football teams or education? Your team sucks, and you're a proven idiot.
