So, uh, what exactly does one need 21 flashlights for?

Since you are a freak, I need a rec. I love my XO3, but I want something brighter.

What can I get that is similar in size and weight but brighter in the <$75 range?

Now:

Surefire G2 (bedside)
Surefire 6P (car)
Streamlight Stylus (desk)
Streamlight Microstream (pocket)

Soon:

G2 for every room
Z2 or G2z

Later:

Surefire mounts for 870 and AR

I do have a mag light in the truck. Batteries are dead, but it work fine for what it is intended (stick!).

I too had an XO3 that I was satisfied with from May 09 to early this year. While researching lights to put on a rifle, I discovered the web forum - Candle Power Forum. That was my downfall. I had never heard of most of the popular brands, because many are only ordered online.

My favorite light I own is the Eagletac P20C2 Mk II. It is a $68 light, and I carry it pretty often - it's not very big. It puts out 300 actual out the front lumens (398 lumens at the emitter).

be aware that you lose about 20-30% of a rated lumen # when the light is directed out the front of the flashlight with a reflector.

Many lights that list ridiculous lumen ratings which either are not true, or are the lumens at the emitter level (and not actual out the front lumens).

The Eagletac P20C2 Mk II has an awesome flood with a combination of throw. It is $68.99 shipped here: http://www.illuminationgear.com/14322/26950.html

Get the XP-G Cool version for the most lumens

And, the T20C2 MK II Eagletac is great too - it has more throw, but is 300 actual OTF lumens as well. This one is $84.99 shipped.

This one is here: http://www.illuminationgear.com/14322/26992.html

I think these are 2 great lights. Just because of the size versus output ratio versus price, the P20C2 MK II is my favorite. I use it every night when I lock my dog up in his doghouse, and the flood it puts out is great.

Here is a pic of 3 of my 4 Eagletacs... The P20C2 Mk II, T20C2 MK II and the M2XC4.

It's an addiction. Many times I get one I like, and then discover something brighter.

The Solarforce lights are nice because they are exact surefire clones, and they use better tech and have more output (lumens wise) than Surefire lights. They also cost much less.

People collect different things. 2010 seemed to be my flashlight collection year

The same could be said for guns, fishing rods, golf clubs...

Just wait till you catch the HID bug. A coworker of mine has one or two...impressive stuff.

I'm content with my Surefire E2D, 6P, 9P, and Z2 for now, but need to convert them to LED and add the defender bezels to the non defenders.

I REALLY want an Olight SR90 - 2200 lumen LED.

But it's $400-$450, depending on where ya buy it at

Maybe I just don't understand the intricacies of a flashlight but I don't think you comparing a flashlight to a golf club or gun is an apples to apples comparison.

I respect the addiction/hobby it was more an honest question of what one would really use that many flashlights for.

Um, sure thing. Hunting for some is a hobby. Golfing for others is a hobby. I wouldn't call them worthless by any stretch of the imagination.

Have you done any comparisons with Eagletac vs Surefire? Looks like the prices are a bit better on the Eagletac, and better performance (at least on paper). I'm tempted to try a couple of the T20C2 just for grins.

Honestly, IMHO, Surefires are way overpriced, and they are not using the latest LED tech. Admittedly, their customer service is ops. And if ya have a problem, they will fix it with no questions asked. But, I'm sorry - I'd likely own ONE light if I had to pay those Surefire prices.

The Eagletacs are good quality, and are brighter than most of the Surefires.

Admittedly, I generally carry a light pretty much all the time. So, I usually swap out the one I carry every once in a while.

3 or 4 is all I REALLY need. But, it is a collection.addiction

I don't need all the guns I have either - but I buy them because I like them.

Well, if I am not at work, I generally wear cargo pants.

I carry a flashlight, extra mag, a bunch of keys, a small pocket knife, a cell phone and a Beretta 92FS IWB.

If I am at work in work slacks, I carry the P20C2 Mk II in my front pocket - or sometimes once I get to work, I leave it on my desk. We have had a lot of power issues at work lately, so it has come in handy

This thread ought to to get Sean98's attention.

Check out the Slumpbusters REAL good under the sheets prior to any "interaction"

But he is in Kansas anyway, so maybe one not need to be so thorough. Just be glad SHE is under the sheets. With all teeth intact.... hopefully and not to brutal with them.

MSW, you have any flashlights that aren't up to your standards that you'd like to sell to a broke student?

Haha, sorry. I actually sold two older Brinkmans recently. For some strange reason, someone was looking for older lights of that specific brand. They were the only two I had that were not that great.

But, go here and buy a L2 Solarforce with a nice R5 drop in LED. The base model is only $22.99 shipped from here. Great light! I've ordered from them about 12 times now. It will take about 12 days to receive it form overseas.

You can order Solarforce lights here from US dealers, but they are cheaper to order straight from the supplier in Hong Kong...

Thanks for all the information - glad I clicked on your thread.

I was looking at the P20c2 and they have an option kit which has three lenses. I know why I want red, but is there a use for a blue and green lens cover?
MisterShipWreck

I believe I had read that blue and green help to locate blood after you shot an animal and are tracking it. But, I don't hunt. So, I can't say for sure.

STM:

I think those are only the bodies and you have to order other parts.

I may be wrong, but that is the way I am reading it.

The P20C2 Mk II is my fav light out of all my lights. I do have an 800 lumen M2CX4, but for the size, price and output, the P20 is still my fav
MisterShipWreck
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Yes, STM - that is only the flashlight body - NOT an entire light with the LED drop in.

I do order some things from lighthound. The lanyards I like are the type Inova USED to give for free. I order them from lighthound for 99 cents each. I also got my 2 stainless steel bezels for my L2Ps from lighthound. And, I ordered the steel lanyard ring pieces from him. But for the entire light - he is not cheaper. Ya gotta pay sales tax and shipping from Lighthound too.

What's the cheapest (good) way to mount a light to an 870?
MisterShipWreck
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Yes, the $22 is the entire unit PLUS an R5 drop in - better than the R2 drop in.

Lighthound charges more for the drop ins separately too. You are looking at atleast $10 more for the same COMPLETE unit from Lighthound.

I had some parts and assembled another L2m from a few parts I ordered. I got my tail switch in yesterday.

Be aware that the 2 cell lights will work with either standard 123 primaries or an 18650 rechargeable. But, the 1 cell L2M/L2m body MUST use rechargeable 123s. They produce 3.7v instead of 3v like a standard 123 cell.

Also, unless you order in bulk online, Lowe's has the best price for 123s - Name brand of Surefire for $4.99 for a TWO pack... Much better than $5.95 for ONE Energizer 123 at WalMart and Target
MisterShipWreck
How long do you want to ignore this user?
ITC on Ebay yoused to sell a L2 Light with an R2 drop in AND a lanyard ring for $24.99. They went up to $26.99 for the light and lanyard ring, or just $24.99 for ONLY the light.

But, that R5 drop in with the L2 body for $22.99 is awesomely priced. I looked at their other sales for the same combo, and they all cost more. So, get that one at that price now while ya can.

I have replaced a few of my R2s with R5s. They are nice.

2 ways - either get one of those shotgun mountable rails... Then you can either use a pistol light on the rail, or any light with a mount you can put on any rifle... (I use scope rings to mount a light on my rifles).

Or, you can buy one of those barrel clamps and clamp one to the barrel. But, this will scratch the finish over time...

These are my fav, and are on all the lights I have lanyards on:

http://www.lighthound.com/Wrist-Lanyard-Black_p_2375.html

These are only 99 cents. Inova previously put these in with their lights (they quit now), and I find that these are the thinnest lanyards around. I don't care for the big buckle on the ones that come with the Eagletacs... These work great for pocket carry.

Someone on Candle Power Forum told me that Lighthound sold them. I buy batches from him a lot.
