I don't like players who lay down. I understand that QB's have to protect themselves when they aren't getting protection, but JJ is an athletic guy who doesn't need to fall when a defender is within three yards. Whether it's on a busted play in the backfield, or a scramble for yards down-field when the receivers are covered, I've seen Jerrod give up without a contest too many times. He is one of our best athletes, but he's not making himself into one of our best play-makers. Aggie fans, despite all of the challenges, will respect a player (especially one who happens to lead this team) who lowers his pads and fights for the extra yards. I think this parlays itself into another issue that is huge for this team and its fan base - leadership. Despite everything else, this team and this fan base will support this young man to the end if he will just provide the inspiration and show a little grit in his character. I know he is a great young man...and a very smart person. I don't question his effort and desire. I just want him to show the toughness we need out of a team leader. He can lead by example and use his ability to inspire the playmakers around him. Play with attitude, JJ...that's all we ask. It'll make your performance better, inspire your fan base and lead your team to victory when it's close...

Between this and the infamous "Schedule Release Date" thread on the basketball forum, it would seem that long-time lurkers should remain just that.

Don't let the snipers get you down, OP. I agree with the sentiments of your post. I was very disappointed in JJ's lack of fire this week. Just flat out gave up on several plays. Saw no emotion or leadership.

Would love to see him turn it around...but not sure if he can. Don't think his heart is in it right now based on his play last week. I hope he proves me wrong...

Sherman needs to buck up and start Tannehill!!! I am sure Sherman doesn't want to cost JJ millions by benching him, but the Aggie football program is much bigger than one player and his future!! Thousands of Aggie fans everywhere deserve better! Do the right thing and put Jerrod on the bench.

^^^^Cords, I agree, JJ would probably fall to late first/early seond round if he gets benched. I am glad that I'm not in Sherman's shoes because this isn't a decision I would want to make.

You guys really think JJ would go in the "late first round"? I'm not so sure about second round either.

Von has the best NFL stock right now and I seem him going late first to early second round. By the way, you say JJ's NFL stock will be hurt if he gets benched.

Do you think it helps when scouts see him play terrible as well? Maybe he is hurt or the surgery has affected him.

All I know is that if he wants to impress any one at the combine, he better rest up instead of continuing to take a beating both physically and mentally.

paragraphs are friend not foe. Also, if you think JJ is getting drafted anywhere before the 6th round, I want what you're smoking.

no way JJ is a first rounder right now...not even close.

wait what? in what universe is JJ going to go in the late first, early second?

take off the maroon colored sunglasses and wake up!

JJ's records are a product of the WRs and system he plays with.

Guys like Kevin Murray and Corey Pullig would have easily bested JJs numbers if they had been in this offense.

At this point, JJ is a 4th-5th rounder, and only that high because if he doesn't work out at QB (and the way he is playing right now he won't) they can try him out at TE or WR.

Sherman needs to bench JJ for a while so JJ retains any hope at all of playing in the NFL. Right now he is his own worst enemy.

Don't put JJ on the bench, put him at TE.

We have THREE good receiving TEs. Our problem is that only Lamothe can block worth a damn. Jerrod ain't gonna fix that problem.

If Tannehill is at QB, Jerrod isn't on the field.

JJ is slow and not elusive and runs straight up. Pretty much the easiest person tackle in the world.

Agreed. I've thought this same thing for a while. I've never really felt like he is the great athlete people make him out to be. He has no acceleration and rarely outruns even defensive linemen.

5th rounder.

Can't take hits or lower pads because he does not run like he is on a mission. But then again he does not even step up in the pocket.

Possible third rounder, but will have to do very well at the combine.

While JJ still has the ability to shake someone one-on-one, I do somewhat agree. He seems to have slowed down a lot since he was a freshman. To be a receiver he needs to either gain 10-15 more pounds and be a TE or lose some weight and get his old speed back to play WR. He has never had elite speed, but he is a legit 6'5 and all-around athlete, so he could be a dangerous receiver.

Jj doesn't lower his pads to take a stupid hit bc he came off shoulder surgery.

playing with "attitude" doesn't include tossing wounded spoonbills and water turkeys all over the field every single time he attempts a pass...

playing with "attitude" doesn't include underthrowing 35 yard passes to receivers who are 5 yards behind the defense by 10 yards resulting in interceptions..

playing with "attitude" doesn't help either if the worst player on either side of the ball each and every week is your starting quarterback...

uh, yeah.....big decision for sherm...the only thing costing him millions is the inaccurate wounded ducks he keeps putting up.....i love the 1st/2nd round talk, keep it up....keep drinking that koolaid that continually gets spiked by john lopez...idiots..

There is no way he will even be drafted. He will need to work from undrafted fa to claim a place on the practice squad if he wants to continue his career.

The performance on the field sure doesn't seem as if a career in football is what he wants.

Unfortunately, I agree with Texasag_01...

If JJ had opted for the pros after last year, he would have gone in the middle rounds, but would have been drafted.

I doubt seriously if he will get a look, even as a walkon FA unless Sherman uses his NFL pull to get him a chance, similar to McGee.

At the risk of making myself a target:

The only way JJ's name and the NFL will even be used in the same sentence, will be when he attends Von's draft party.

What is in JJ's future................another shoulder surgery.

He doesn't have the same arm strength he had last year.

if mcgee was healthy he would have been all-american in this offense...his o-line was worse...but he has some zip on the pass and he was very elusive...and he had that burning desire to kick your ass no matter what it took...he was a leader...and he has potential as we saw in the last preseason game...

i have never seen JJ with that fire...hope somehow he turns it around but i just dont see it...i would go as far to say as VY throws a much better ball than JJ...JJ couldnt hit a deep slant if he there were no defenders out there
mattpete07
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Anybody that thinks JJ will go pro is an idiot, PERIOD.
While he has been perfecting throwing the ball out of bounds and the ever-elegant sliding technique, he cant run, and he cant hit an open receiver, Oh and worst of all he can't win. 1st round draft...maybe in european football(soccer).

I don't understand how y'all think JJ isn't going to be a high pick. He has the raw talent that every OC in the NFL is probably drooling over right now. He is a potential Heisman finalist and y'all don't even think he will get drafted. New Army needs to support this team and our players.

If he pulls a Reggie McNeal against ou rugs year he may still get drafted. Or he plays the same like the last few games he won't.

It is that simple

won't be drafted....not at QB anyway.
