We're now 2-7 in games in the SEC decided by less than 3 runs. It seems like, with a few exceptions, we haven't been able to eek out those close games. I wonder why that is. Compare that to a team like Arkansas who's played in and won a ton of close games, whereas it seems like we rely on blowing teams out.

Why do we struggle so much in close games?

When we win blow the crap outta teams. When we lose it's close. It's frustrating for fans but consider the overall record first
Arkansas isn't capable of scoring a lot of runs so they never get those big blowouts. Thus, almost ALL of their games are close.BLSmith04 said:

scraping for wins is learned, not given. it's actually nice to see Ags get stung, and perhaps they will get gritty enough to find that scrappiness before Omaha. Tennessee was a great example last year.

low-scoring games are not the Ags' specialty
the Ags are just 2-5 when scoring 4 runs or fewer

The answer is we have pitching issues that have been evident for some time despite our ranking. We have been giving up a ton of runs in many of our Ws.
This does not bode well for the NCAA tournament. You have to win close games unless you're illegal bat LSU teams from 20 years ago.
Lack of late clutch hitting.
Ags have set the table in 9th inning of many losses, but couldn't get that game winning hit.

The answer is that this team is so fking good that when we struggle mightily the result is a close game. But when we play average it is a blowout. And when we play a little above our average it is a run rule.

Let us also not forget that you will not win close games in the SEC, especially at LSU, when you give up as many bases and errors that we have had the past 2 games. I don't know about the previous 5, 4 or less scoring games, but in this series it has been error city.....

Schloss doesn't give a **** about singular games right now. This team gets in the tourney and the guys out of the bullpen with be drastically different. He's still trying to figure out who he can trust. If your starter goes 5/6 in a close tourney game… you're going with Sdao, Evan, Rudis, or Cortez to close it out. It's interesting to see the difference in how teams handle close games. Arkansas seems to excel in those tight matchups, while we've had a tougher time pulling through. Maybe it's all about finding that balance between blowing teams out and grinding out those close wins. It's all part of the game, right? Let's keep supporting the team and hope they can turn those close games into victories!
Based on the looking strikeouts this weekend my guess is we've grown dependent on all or nothing homeruns.

And the amount of errors we had was uncharacteristic. Not used to being out of their comfort zone perhaps. It's still LSU.

It does seem like the team might be relying heavily on homeruns and facing some challenges with errors. Adjusting the approach to be more versatile and focusing on consistent performance could help overcome these hurdles. Facing tough opponents like LSU can be a great opportunity to learn and grow as a team.
2-8 now. The same thing that hurt us against LSU hurt us tonight. Errors on defense and lack of timely hitting on offense.

We can't move guys over at all, refuse to bunt and we make playing defense easy when we strike out all the time. The k's are demoralizing and pathetic.
We absolutely bash against bad pitching , very good pitching sometimes limits us to less than 5 and those games are often close losses

LaViolette only came up to the plate once with a runner on base and he walked (1st inning)
