It is very possible that it will be harder competition to win the SEC tournament than the CWS. Let that sink in.

Anything north of 16 wins gets us a Top8 IMO

I can't find where an SEC team has gotten a national seed at 17-13.

This might be the best baseball conference ever. 10 teams ranked and 6 in the top 10. I think 17-13 will get us a Top 8 and 15-15 will get us to host a regional.

Obviously SEC is best I have a suspicion the if there is a clear separation between the 3rd & 4 th best SEC team
The 4 th might get the 9 seed just to spread the national seeds around

Agree with all of this except I think it's 1-2-4-7 seeds for the top 4 sec teams. 1 and 2 from E and W.

Pair SEC 2 and 4 in the supers. 1 is matched with the west coast/"other" (8 seed) and 3 is matched with the ACC 2.

FWIW, I think sec gets 4, ACC gets 3 and 1 other to get the 8 national seeds.

I may not be reading this right... But if I am I feel the need to point out that NONE of the top 8 seeds will be matched against each other in the Supers. They'll all be hosts. 1 isn't matched with 8 it'll be matched with 16.

Here's my Top 8/Top 16 if (1) I were in charge for a day, and (2) today was that day. (#) is Boyd's RPI

1. Texas A&M (1)
2. Arkansas (2)
3. Clemson (4)
4. Tennessee (5)
5. Kentucky (3)
6. North Carolina (7)
7. Florida State (6)
8. East Carolina (8)

9. Wake Forest (9)
10. Oregon State (15)
11. Georgia (11)
12. Indiana State (10)
13. UC-Santa Barbara (12)
14. Coastal Carolina (13)
15. Dallas Baptist (17)
16. Nebraska (19)

I left South Carolina (14) and Virginia (16) out of the mix because of the glut of mid-Atlantic teams and the fact that they both just dropped series this weekend.

I think Duke (21) and Oklahoma (22) will probably be in the mix at the end of the year and DBU/Nebraska would be out. But for today this is where I'm at. I think Tech (28) has a chance in lieu of OU if things break right. I don't see both of them getting a host spot. NC State (29) is red hot and has some helium if they keep winning. I also think Wake has a chance to move up and pull a National Seed from whichever of UNC/FSU slips assuming Wake really has it rolling. East Carolina can't afford to lose to any of the bad teams in their conference or they fall off the Supers line, and they might anyway.

I still believe the committee will want 2 west coast hosts. As of today there's no reach to get 2 in. If UC-SB slips, or their terrible conference just drags them down it could become a reach.

Warren Nolan's RPI prediction has them finishing 23-7 in the Big West, but their RPI falls to 21 (probably close enough). They have 3 games series left against Fulerton (210), UC San Diego (133), Bakersfield (277), CS Northridge (76), and Riverside (252). That's a lot of dead weight for the RPI, so they better keep winning. A slip up or two and they could find themselves in the 30s.

Top 8 seeds don't meet in supers, they meet in Omaha. 1-8 regional winners are paired with 9-16 regional winners in supers.

Last year they didn't seem to go out of their way to pair SEC teams in supers.

4, 3, 1 for national seeds seems about right.

last year the ACC and SEC combined for 12 regional hosts

I would expect at least 10 this season. Vandy and S. Carolina will probably do just enough to host

another note from last year...

none of the teams seeded #9 thru #16 made it to Omaha

4 were knocked out in the regional round...and the other 4 in the SR round

No. You read right. As Vegas pointed out, I meant in Omaha (two thoughts in my head). I think they protect 1 but plan on at least one matchup and 2-7 seems most likely to me.

Great post.

I still think UK ends up at 7. Also do not think the committee will want an all SEC-ACC supers. I think 8 will be OSU just to have one out west although I can certainly see ECU if they aren't worried about that scheduling.

Based on the numbers four of 8 national seeds would be correct still
I think the sec get 1 ,3,5,9 iirc 1,5,9 if they won would be on the same side of the Omaha bracket and likely the 2 seed at 8 regional is SEC likely a USCw at an ACC host

the Ags have 5 series wins over regional teams...likely 1-seeds & 2-seeds:

Georgia
Alabama
Vanderbilt
Carolina
State

I think top 4 get a national seed and we pretty much know who those teams will be already…A&M, Arkansas, Tennessee, and Kentucky

If a team stumbles they might get dropped to 9 , right now everyone looks to finish with 21+ wins and that should get them a national seed

By comparison, FSU which is in the running for a Top8 seed just got their first series win over a likely regional team yesterday. Their first. of the season.

I would like to see us finish no worse than:
2 of 3 vs LSU
3 of 3 vs Ole Miss
2 of 3 vs Arky

22-8 overall in SEC with a 9-1 series record.

That would pretty much guarantee the dreaded #1 overall seed.

7-2 is a very tall order. But I'll drink to that.

Obviously at the time I wrote that I was thinking that LSU would turn it around. They haven't.

I agree that we need to take 2 of 3 to make this a successful weekend. Of course, a sweep would be great. Hasn't happened since we joined the conference, but this could be the year.

Winning the final 9 after dropping the first series 2-1 would be incredible. Especially having an even run differential in the one series we lost.

I mean if we are dialing up our order, I'd say sweep swamp kitty and drop one to Ole Miss.

this thread has gotten more interesting now

as UK, Tenn, Arky, and A&M continue the push to 19 conference wins

UK at 18
Tenn & Arky at 17
A&M at 16

at this point there is room for all four to be top 8 seeds along with Clemson, North Carolina, East Carolina, and tbd

19-11 got us the 5 seed in 2022. And we are pristine OOC this year. I've said all year - 19 is a lock. 18 you leave it to chance.

It's funny, when it comes to being a national seed, I really care more about who we are matched up with for the super than what the actual number is. Sometimes the 16 is weak, and sometimes that's a team that made a late season run to host.
BadMoonRisin

Im less worried about our seed and more about the less-than-characteristic play that we had in the first two games.

It happens to all good teams, and we rebounded great in game 3. Dont forget about this series, learn from it, and head to the next.
