Ignore my buddy on his phone in the background.

You have to click on the numbered section of the link to see the video apparently.

So, even though Flickr decided to hold my account hostage to make me go "pro" it's good to know that their interface with texags still sucks.

Water heater should be up and running this weekend, the addition has been mostly insulated and wired, and I now am almost ready for the HVAC install.

Oh, I also ordered 5 new interior transoms that I'll need to install. Because, why not at this point?

Got a big money bet that I'll be "living" in the place by then.

Got rid of this closet door that has been bothering me since the start. (It is moving to the other side)

Might as well take out some more drywall:

Twas a good month. Water heater is up and running, I renewed permits for the skirting and windows and got a rubber stamp approval to change the windows to white.

Yeah, I'm pretty damn proud. (Finished them up today)

Normally I like to wait to post every couple of months so I don't sit on the front page of the forum all the time but I couldn't help myself today.

Things are really coming along, and that's a LOT of green in that kitchen! You planning on putting drywall back in or painting the beadboard?

When I was growing up in the 70's, my mom scraped all the ceiling bead board taken down in the house we were remodeling and it was used for wainscoting with a stained finish and it looked great. It was a lot of work for her but satisfying with the finished product.

How long did it take to strip the paint from just one of your windows?

I'd rather not think about it.
(about an hour or two or three per sash depending how much of a ***** the old glazing was being)

Two of the walls with bead board are getting drywall due to damage the rest I was hoping to clean and paint.

Our house is over one hundred years old and is a work in progress. I'm fixing to apply finish to four double hung windows (eight sashes) next week. I used a Speadheater infrared paint stripper and good scrapers. After getting used to the way it worked, I could strip and sand both sides of a window sash in about an hour. The heater is super fast. It was lifting four layers of paint, down to bare wood in less than five seconds. The glazing around the window panes came out fairly easy with a fine chisel. I didn't really have to fight with it much.

The Speedheater worked so well, I plan to use it to strip paint on the interior doors and original woodwork.

I just found this thread and enjoy watching your progress!

Yeah, I originally looked at getting a Speedheater Cobra but balked at the price. I should have done it, but it's almost too late at this point.

I'm toying with the idea currently.

I have the Cobra and I bought a couple of their scrapers. I wouldn't have paid full price for the Cobra, but I sold some collectibles I had $200 invested in for enough to buy the heater. It's well worth what I paid for it. I was able to strip the multiple layers of paint off the old growth fir window trim that spanned the width of all four windows in one afternoon without having to remove the wood. It sure makes the work faster and easier. Especially keeping the work area clean and tidy at the end of the day.

I wanted one of those things because on videos it's unreal how quick and easy that makes everything. A bit too rich for my blood unless I end up repainting the exterior on our 100 year old house myself. Quotes came back in the high 4 figures, and this is on a 900 sq ft bungalow!

I suspect you will paint it because you are too cheap to pay those rates. Can you import a Texas painter for a week? Airfare plus hotel plus "cost" and you would still come out ahead.

So we all get there eventually, but I don't know **** about tech anymore. I have become my father. I'm lost in a world of jargon that I no longer follow or understand. I will probably fudge up the TV purchase when it comes time because I can't be bothered following the tech anymore. (I'll probably find a young'un to find it for me)

I have fiber to the house currently (priorities!) I was planning on running the TV, computers and garbage through that wirelessly but experiencing lag on my buddy's TV last week (regular cable run wirelessly on an older TV set) I am no longer sure.

I am not interested in the "internet of things" for the fridge or whatever, but I need to get the TV set up right before I put the drywall in in March. Cat 6, right? That's the standard now? I have the router set up in the living room but it might be in the wrong place but I can live with it. I was thinking about paying AT&T to move the router and modem to the interior closest which means adding an outlet. (not a big deal)

I just have a hard time thinking wiring cat 6 is worth it for the TV. The place is 1200 sf on a good day but I don't want to deal with ****ty connections while streaming TV and movies.

This is one area where you need to type very slow and have patience. If I'm going to do it, now is the time. But I do worry about the new best thing and it wind up being a hard wire install of betamax that's not needed.

Suggestions are welcome. I'm leaning to crawling under the house and doing this.
The reason I'm thinking under rather than through the attic is I don't want the risk of is getting stepped on in the attic. That said, it looks like the cat6 line could probably take it just fine.

No AC or heat or drywall, but I'm worried about TV connectivity.
The Fife
How long do you want to ignore this user?
You have a short run so I'd go ahead and run cat 6 from the router to the TV just because you never know what kind of signal interference there might be from whatever else is around you. Also from the router to the cable box if they're separate.

From the cable box to the TV I'd recommend a high speed HDMI run.

I work in an IT office so I get friends to help me for low or no cost.

We dropped 2 x cat 5e in all the rooms of our house during the renovation. Most rooms they are unused; behind the TV I added a 5 port gigabit switch because I needed more than 2.

Now is the time plus it is a selling point to the next owner.

I don't have fiber and cut the cord in a much larger house a year ago. Haven't looked back. Adding an over the air tuner and wireless distribution for it means HD TV for local channels as well. With fiber I wouldn't think twice.

Check out any of the cutting the cord threads on the technology forum. I think there's one on the Houston forum as well if you do a search.

Paul,

I have the big boxes of quad shield coax and cat5e that you are welcome to use. You won't need much in a small house.

I also have some connectors and the tools for the ends.

So if you are near CS I'll give them to you.

It's an interesting problem to have where you need to get an 8 foot ladder up into your attic. I traded a buddy a day putting radiant barrier in his attic for one on mine. I just did the right side ( southern exposure) of the home. Any little bit a help in the summer should be welcomed.
