Any recommendations or thoughts on Quebec City? Looks like a nice place for a trip with the wife. Some historic sights and shopping/entertainment.

Besides very cold, any issues with going in Oct or November? Assume it is still pretty nice.

I've got a tentative trip scheduled for mid-May. I got my ideas for the trip from these two podcast episodes. The accompanying website also has itineraries posted.

I think Quebec City is a real underappreciated gem in North America. Definitely stay in the old town, that's where you'll want to be. The https://www.fairmont.com/frontenac-quebec/ is the landmark hotel. We didn't stay there, but we had dinner and drinks there.

We combined it with a trip to Maine and drove up for three nights and thought that was about perfect. If you stay for a longer trip you can combine with Montreal which is a short trip away.

We went during the summer, but as I recall they had a big fall festival or something every year.

Spent a day there on a cruise. Visited the Basillica, waterfalls and old town. Was great. Hope to go back and see more.

haven't been, but I've been real close on pulling the trigger on a trip there. Even so far as to booking hotel rooms for the wife and I. It seems to be a great town for strolling, bar hopping, history in general. Basically like going to Europe without going to Europe. If flights weren't crap for this summer for the week we needed we would've went. Still sad about that.

Agreed on staying in the Old Town. Parking is a mess and your trip will be much better without having to deal with it.

We also spent time in the area to hike the Montmorency waterfall which is very impressive and easy to traverse and a short drive. We also did a lap around Ile D'Orleans which is idyllic French-Canadian countryside. Would be fun to rent a convertible and tour around hopping off at different stops. (We had a minivan)

Eat at le lapin saute

Wear good walking shoes and prepare to climb lots of stairs/hills lol

Just walk around old town all day. It's not that big so a couple days is probably plenty. But it's so cool! Would go back a million times over Quebec or any of the other big cities

Wife and I went to Montreal in September for our anniversary and rented a car to drive to QC for a day. We both wished we had spent the entire vacation in QC. It was amazing and we could have relaxed in Old Quebec multiple days with no issue.

*I'm an idiot. Meant Montreal to QC

Vancouver to Quebec City is a pretty long drive for a day trip.

Wife and I went about 5 years ago. Flew into Portland Maine, then to QC, then back to Maine and down the coast eating lobsters from shacks. Loved the trip.

Stayed at Fairmont downtown. Walked the city. Took walking food tour - which I would recommend. Ton of history in the city. Some of the most polite, friendly people that we have met.
