Gotta remember...he was only at Bama for two years. The team he took over had begun the previous year ranked number three in the preseason. In other words, there was talent in place, and he did a good job instilling discipline and using the folks that were there.
It just makes me laugh all the propaganda that fraud got when he arrived to A&M. Anyone that was at school then remember the "Fran is the man" shirts? glad i never bought one since i didnt like him then either, but i woulda burnt it if i had one.
6th winningest is not bad - just most of it is a diff league - and its evident. I imagine He'd continue to take Trinity Scool of the White Pines to national championships.
It kinda sucks too. If there was a year where we could be a national player, it was this one. All these upsets, and we havent played a teama ranked in the top 25 (as of today). Thanks Dennis, please take Kim and go.
Alabama was stacked and he still made bonehead calls. He had a running back who is on a very short list of all-time elite NFL football players at TCU. The rest of his career is either very mediocre, or at a completely different level. That's it in a nutshell!
that's because he didn't have to deal with defense at alabama, he got premiere defensive players, and because the SEC does not consistently produce a lot of points, he didn't have to worry about that side of the ball, here in the big XII it's different, you have to put up a lot more points here to win a game
He's a turn-around specialist, and A&M didn't need a turn-around. We had not hit rock bottom or quit on the previous coach. Without that foundation, he has never been able to effectively manage the team.
I wonder if it just boils down to complacency. Part of me thinks that Fran views A&M as his retirement home. We really should have realized when he got scared at Alabama and wanted out--The pressure was too much for him and he bolted. Any coach that can't handle that type of pressure doesn't need to come to A&M because he probably doesn't want it bad enough to succeed here, either.
