Looking at our current QB situation, if Stidham wants to leave Baylor, A&M would be in a prime position to get him.
Yes, we all know how his recruitment went, but look at our current situation.
- Our named starter is a fifth year Senior. Knight will play just this year and leave.
- Our main backup is a transfer Junior, who wants to be an Aggie.
- After them, we have a walkon Senior, Junior, and Sophomore.
- We also have an incoming Freshman who, ideally, will redshirt.
What is missing? A scholarship Sophomore quarterback on the team. That spot was vacated by Murray.
On top of that, we have a new OC, who prefers QBs to be more like Stidham, not Murray.
At the worst, Stidham can come in, learn the system and begin this season as the 3rd string QB, learning the system, but still capable of seeing the field, if needed. During the 2017 Spring Practices, he could essentially take our the starter position and be primed for good success. There is a big difference of being successful against Big XII defenses and being successful against SEC defenses.
Another positive impact of this happening will be that A&M will not feel the need to get a 2nd 2017 QB, which is a good feeling to have.
