It sounds more widespread than 1 or 2 players... I think that's the problem.
Every sport has academic eligibility requirements. It is not unique to football.
If there's a problem that is systemic, it is more of an AD problem.

Maybe yes, maybe no.The problems at UNC were systemic with lack of sufficient oversight by the university and athletic department as a whole. Coaches don't sit in class with their players. If a person with that responsibility says players are good to go, the coach wouldn't have any reason to question that. (Well, Saban might, but he's anal about everything.)
I can see how an OC would like to be kept informed of the players he had available when he was game planning. Disciplinary issues, injuries, or other considerations. And if that communication was not timely, nor heaven forbid inaccurate, Spav would have cause to be miffed.
But so would Sumlin.
