Blower motor lowest speed has been sluggish. Bump it up to the 2nd position and it's a little better.

It started making some racket this morning. I planned to check it this evening.

Got into the truck after work and it smelled.

Ran some errands and ate dinner and pulled the blower motor/fan assembly. I think I found the problem!

How do they get in there?

I'm considering replacing the whole shebang instead of trying to clean it up.

You can buy just the motor or you can buy motor and fan barrel.

Gen 1 doesn't have a cabin air filter so I have that going for me.

Sticky traps on both sides of your garage. You need them. Bait boxes outside.

I've had to start using the peppermint oil stuff to keep wiring harnesses from getting chewed up. They don't last too long, but seem to keep critters from finding a home: Peppermint Oil Balls

If you are replacing it to avoid cleaning it, Seems like you need to replace the barrel. Makes no sense to replace the motor only.

Or, clean it and stick it back in as-is. Hard part is done.

Mice love the engine air intake and cabin filtration systems, based on pictures I've seen online.

I think I'm going to just clean it and reinstall and see how it sounds and performs.
