RIP and prayers for his family.....
quote:I didn't know him, but this is an outstanding post. Thanks for posting.
I knew Dan.
He was one of my closest friends for nearly 40 years. We roomed together at A&M, fished the Florida Keys, were in each others weddings and so much more. He was everything you guys knew on these boards and so much more. I had the honor of speaking at his service but his children stole the show. All three of his kids somehow had the composure to stand up and share their thoughts on the type of father Dan was. Consider the generous nature, uncommon wisdom and knowledge that you saw on these boards and imagine the caliber of children he and his wife raised. What a testament to him.
I wish all of you could have been there.
Dan suffered a heart attack while swimming laps. He died from complications related to that event. We're all still stunned.
Its funny, as well as I knew Dan I never realized he was such a prolific contributor to these boards. I know his family has read many of the posts and have been buoyed by the outpouring of support. Your words have been a great comfort to me as well.

One of his sons graduated from A&M. Wonder if he could be talked into coming in and talking a bit about his dad?

No reply.....
quote:This really can't be said enough.
It's strange how we develop "friendships" on these boards with folks we never meet but those friendships are no less real. Reading this, I felt a sincere since of loss. The fact that he impacted people without even meeting them speaks volumes of the type of person he was.

We may need to just give it some time. If I out myself in the sons shoes I don't know if I'd be able to reply this soon.
