I knew Dan.

He was one of my closest friends for nearly 40 years. We roomed together at A&M, fished the Florida Keys, were in each others weddings and so much more. He was everything you guys knew on these boards and so much more. I had the honor of speaking at his service but his children stole the show. All three of his kids somehow had the composure to stand up and share their thoughts on the type of father Dan was. Consider the generous nature, uncommon wisdom and knowledge that you saw on these boards and imagine the caliber of children he and his wife raised. What a testament to him.

I wish all of you could have been there.

Dan suffered a heart attack while swimming laps. He died from complications related to that event. We're all still stunned.

Its funny, as well as I knew Dan I never realized he was such a prolific contributor to these boards. I know his family has read many of the posts and have been buoyed by the outpouring of support. Your words have been a great comfort to me as well.
I didn't know him, but this is an outstanding post. Thanks for posting.

Wow. I didn't know him but enjoyed his posts. I thought of him as a "crotchety old man" with some wise words (in spite of driving a Ridgeline). It's strange how we develop "friendships" on these boards with folks we never meet but those friendships are no less real. Reading this, I felt a sincere since of loss. The fact that he impacted people without even meeting them speaks volumes of the type of person he was.

Now I see he was only a couple of years older than I am. Not sure why those that work so hard to stay healthy, do the "right" things get taken so young when someone like me that has abused his fat a** for so long and should have been put down long ago is still dragging along. Not fair.

T&P to his family. "Here"

Would anyone be opposed to dedicating the next GTKYN to SpicewoodAg?

We could throw out the list of questions, let the community and friends answer them with what they remember and add it the list of links sort of as a memorial?

I think he has already done a GTKYN. Let me try to find it.

Edit: I couldn't find it. I really thought he had.

I could have sworn he did a GTKYN. He was good people IRL I really enjoyed my lunch dates with him. Noble Pig, Top Notch burgers, Little Deli... We hit the best Austin lunch spots. Talked swimming, aggie football, cars, and 1ags legends.

One of his sons graduated from A&M. Wonder if he could be talked into coming in and talking a bit about his dad?

We may need to just give it some time. If I out myself in the sons shoes I don't know if I'd be able to reply this soon.

This really can't be said enough.

If y'all would like to make an Automotive Tailgate once this year, let me know.

Auto Board Cars & Coffee before the first game of every season would be a good start. Definitely love this board a lot and care for the posters here

That would be in Houston this year. It could work.

I've thought about it, I'll hold off on GTKYN SpicewoodAg and give it some time for this reason. I'd be cool with it if someone else did, though. In the meantime, I've got another person in mind I'll post tomorrow.

Was mulling something this weekend and it came to my mind that it had been about a year since Dan's passing. Still makes me sad.
